Pokemon Go Boss on Why You Should Vote Today
"A big part of making our communities work here in the US is the democratic process that allows us to select our leaders and influence the laws."
Today is a big day in the world of politics, as the United States will vote to elect a new president. Fictional HBO characters have already told viewers to go vote and now Pokemon Go boss John Hanke has done the same.
In a blog post on developer Niantic's website, Hanke discussed why being involved in the political process is important for everyone. "Here at Niantic, we are passionate about exploration and discovery of our local communities. If we get out and explore the places where we live, and maybe meet some of our friends and neighbors along the way, we think that can only be a good thing for the world," he said.
"A big part of making our communities work here in the US is the democratic process that allows us to select our leaders and influence the laws," Hanke added. "We encourage you to exercise your right to vote and make your voice heard. Every journey starts with a single step, and a path to a better world and a lifetime of making a difference can start with a single vote."
If you didn't vote already either through an absentee ballot or early voting, you can Google "Find my voting place" to find out where your local polling location is.
Pokemon Go was recently updated with a daily catch bonus feature--read more about it here. Players have data-mined the update and found references to more than 100 new creatures. Additionally, veteran Pokemon series producer Junichi Masuda said in an interview that the massive, global popularity of Pokemon Go did not impact the development of Pokemon Sun/Moon.
Some kind of connection between Pokemon Go and Sun and Moon has been discussed, but it remains to be seen what this will be.
