Niantic, the studio behind the ever-popular Pokemon Go, has launched its newest sci-fi AR mobile game, Ingress Prime. The title is available to download for free on iOS and Android devices and builds upon the original Ingress with "cutting-edge location-based technology" and "an all-new interactive story."

As in Pokemon Go, Ingress Prime has players going to real-world locations, but rather than looking for monsters to catch and Gyms to take over, you'll be capturing Portals and collecting a resource known as Exotic Matter, or XM. Vying for control of these Portals are two warring sides known as The Enlightened and The Resistance, and once players complete the game's training segment, they'll need to choose a faction to side with.

According to Niantic, the story in Ingress Prime will evolve based on the outcome of the game's real-world Anomaly events, which have players from both factions working together "for a weekend of competition, exploration, and celebration." Niantic plans to host 12 "large-scale" Primary Anomaly events around the world, beginning with one in select cities later this month, on November 17.

To commemorate the launch of Ingress Prime, Pokemon Go players have a chance to catch two special Pokemon right now. For a limited time, Cubone and Ponyta will spawn in much greater numbers than usual, and you'll even be able to encounter Shiny variants of each. Pokemon Go players will also receive free Ingress Prime clothing items for their avatar.

Niantic recently rolled out a new update for Pokemon Go, bringing the recently announced Adventure Sync to most players. The new feature allows the game to track the distance you traveled even when it isn't opening, making it much easier to hatch Eggs. Meanwhile, Pokemon Go's next Community Day is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 10, and will feature one of the starter Pokemon from Gold and Silver, Cyndaquil.
