Pokemon Go Kyurem Raid Guide: Weaknesses, Counters, And Other Raid Tips
The Legendary Dragon/Ice Pokemon has returned to Raid Battles for a limited time; here are some tips to help you beat and catch it.
Another Legendary Pokemon has returned to Pokemon Go for a limited time. All month long, Kyurem, the Legendary Dragon/Ice type from Pokemon Black and White, is appearing at Gyms as a tier five Raid boss. This marks only the second time that Kyurem has been available in Pokemon Go, so if you missed your previous chance to capture one or are hoping to add another to your collection, we've rounded up some tips to help you beat and catch Kyurem below.
Kyurem Raid Hours
Kyurem will appear in Gyms around the world as a five-star Raid boss all month long, from December 1 to January 1. As usual, Raid Battles don't follow a set schedule and can happen pretty much at any time, but you'll receive a notification in the game when one is about to begin at nearby Gym.
To make it a bit easier to track the Legendary down, Niantic hosts a Raid Hour event every Wednesday evening from 6-7 PM local time. During that hour, nearly every nearby Gym will be taken over by a five-star Raid, which effectively ensures you'll have a chance to battle the Legendary. This month's Kyurem Raid Hours will fall on the following dates:
- December 2
- December 9
- December 16
- December 23
- December 30
Kyurem Weaknesses And Counters
As a Dragon/Ice type, Kyurem has a handful of different weaknesses you can exploit, but your best bet is to use Fairy Pokemon. Togekiss, Granbull, Gardevoir, and other Fairy types will be especially effective against the Legendary, although keep in mind that Togekiss will take super-effective damage from Kyurem's Ice attacks.
Kyurem's Ice typing also opens up weaknesses to Rock, Fighting, and Steel Pokemon, making those great alternatives to use. The Legendaries Terrakion and Cobalion fill both niches, but there are plenty of other good choices to bring along, such as Rhyperior, Gigalith, Tyranitar, Conkeldurr, Lucario, Machamp, Metagross, Melmetal, and Heatran.
Types To Avoid
As an Ice type, Kyurem has an advantage over Ground, Grass, and Flying Pokemon, so you'll want to avoid using monsters of those types when battling the Legendary. Dragon Pokemon are also at a disadvantage here. Not only do they take super-effective damage from their own type, they are susceptible to Ice-type attacks as well, making them poor counters against Kyurem.
