Not that it is any surprise, but a newly revealed number shows just how much of a juggernaut Pokemon Go truly is. The Pokemon Company's Tsunekazu Ishihara announced today during the firm's big reveal event in Japan that the AR game has reached an astonishing 800 million downloads.

Pokemon Go is still growing in popularity, as the new figure is up from the 650 million number that was announced back in March during the Game Developers Conference. The new 800 million figure was relayed by Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki.

Now Playing: Pokemon Quest Is A Free Nintendo Switch RPG Out Right Now

Pokemon Go is a free-to-play game for iOS and Android devices, as well as Apple Watch. The game makes its money from microtransactions--and those have been a huge hit.

It was a big day for Pokemon news, as The Pokemon Company also announced two new Pokemon RPGs--Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let's Go Eevee--for Nintendo Switch. Additionally, Nintendo announced and launch a free Pokemon game for Nintendo Switch called Pokemon Quest. Not only that, but Nintendo announced a Poke-Ball controller and confirmed that the previously announced "core" Pokemon RPG for Switch is due out in 2019.

In addition to ongoing support for Pokemon Go, its developer Niantic Labs is working on an intriguing-looking Harry Potter AR game called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
