Pokemon Sword & Shield: Last Chance To Claim Gigantamax Meowth And Other Freebies
You can pick up the free Gigantamax Pokemon until January 15.
Since Pokemon Sword and Shield arrived on Nintendo Switch back in November, The Pokemon Company has been giving away a variety of freebies for early adopters, including a special Gigantamax Meowth. However, many of these freebies will only be available until tomorrow, January 15, so your time to claim them is quickly running out. Here's how to get yours if you haven't already.
How To Claim Your Free Gigantamax Meowth
Unlike many freebies offered for previous Pokemon games, you won't need to head to a specific store to get your Gigantamax Meowth; rather, you can claim it using the Mystery Gift function from the game's menu. Select Mystery Gift, then choose the option to get your gift via the internet. Follow the prompts to connect online and download your special Meowth. You can then find it waiting in one of your Pokemon storage boxes.
Free Poke Balls
In addition to Gigantamax Meowth, you can snag a handful of rare Poke Balls in Sword and Shield until January 15. These are also distributed via Mystery Gift. To claim them, select Get with Code/Password and input the following codes when prompted:
Code | Gift | Expiration Date |
---|---|---|
K0UN1NMASC0T | 1 Fast Ball, 1 Moon Ball, 1 Level Ball | January 15 |
1YAHAYA | 1 Heavy Ball, 1 Lure Ball, 1 Beast Ball | January 15 |
0KUGAFUKA1B0RU | 1 Love Ball, 1 Dream Ball, 1 Friend Ball | January 15 |
Other Free Gifts
Meowth isn't the only free Pokemon you can claim in Sword and Shield; you can also get a Gigantamax Pikachu and Eevee if you have save data from Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee on your Switch. If you fall in that camp, you can pick up the Pokemon from Wild Area Station early on in your adventure. Neither Pikachu nor Eevee can evolve, but they're the only variants in their species capable of Gigantamaxing. You can also catch a new Galarian Slowpoke at Wedgehurst Station.

We gave the Gen 8 Pokemon games a 9/10 in our Sword and Shield review. Critic Kallie Plagge wrote, "Sword and Shield cut down on the tedious and protracted elements from previous games in favor of amplifying what makes Pokemon great in the first place. This is the most balanced a Pokemon game has felt in a long time, and with that, Sword and Shield mark the best new generation of Pokemon games in years."
