Pokémon Diamond and Pearl sales near 1.6m
Pikachu's latest foray on the Nintendo DS racks up massive sales in Japan.
According to NTT Publishing's EG game news site, the new Nintendo DS Pokémon games Diamond and Pearl accrued combined sales of 1.58 million units during their debut week of September 28 through October 1. This beats the franchise's former champions of first-week sales, Pocket Monster Gold/Silver, which combined moved 1.41 million copies back in 1999. The best single title for debut sales on the DS continues to be New Super Mario Bros., which racked up 865,024 units its first week. Diamond sold 813,237 units, while Pearl moved an impressive 762,029 copies.
