More than a year after it was first announced, Port Royale 2 is finally setting sail for North America. German developer Ascaron Entertainment announced that it had lined up a publishing deal with Tri Synergy to bring the game to US and Canadian retailers. It is scheduled for release this September.

Port Royale 2 is the sequel to 2003's Port Royale. The strategy game puts players in control of the bustling Jamaican port of Port Royale during the 16th and 17th centuries. In the role of a government-licensed privateer, players wheel and deal with neighboring ports and colonial empires and have the ability to resort to military force when other means fail.

Ascaron also developed the fantasy role-playing game Sacred and the Patrician series of economic strategy games. Check back with GameSpot for more information on Port Royale 2 as it becomes available.
