Prince Of Persia Creator Trying To Revive Franchise
Maybe we'll see a new game in the near future.
Although it was once a well-known and popular series, Prince of Persia went a little quiet during the PS3/Xbox 360 generation. A film based on the series and the most recent mainline game both launched in 2010, and since then, it's pretty much disappeared. But there may still be hope that the series could return: creator Jordan Mechner recently stated that he's working to resurrect Prince of Persia.
This week, model and TV host Chrissy Teigen posted on Twitter about how she had enjoyed Prince of Persia and wondered if the franchise was still alive. Mechner saw this post and responded, explaining that he and others are trying to garner interest in bringing it back. "Chrissy, I know a few other people who feel the same way," he said. "We're doing our best to make it happen!"

Mechner developed the very first Prince of Persia game, which originally launched in 1989. Since then, he's helped with several other Prince of Persia games, including the first reboot in 2001 after Ubisoft took over publishing rights.
It is unclear if Ubisoft would consider publishing another Prince of Persia game. Assassin's Creed is often viewed as Ubisoft's successor franchise to Prince of Persia, considering their gameplay and setting similarities. With Assassin's Creed still going strong, Ubisoft may opt to focus on one third-person, historical action series. In the meantime, if you want to check out one of the previous games, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is backwards compatible on Xbox One.
