PS4 And Xbox One Getting Acclaimed RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2

Still sinning.

Acclaimed PC role-playing title Divinity: Original Sin II is coming to Xbox One and PS4. The console release will be published by Bandai Namco and will launch in August 2018. According to the publisher, it will have "a user interface tailored for console," and four-player online co-op, which proved to be popular in the PC version, will be included. There will also be two-player split-screen co-op support.

"This is an incredible opportunity for us to work with Larian Studios who has already shown its talented work through the previous games," said Hervé Hoerdt, vice president of marketing and digital at Bandai Namco Europe. "We are extremely pleased to bring this outstanding title to our lineup by offering new epic adventures to console gamers with the deepest RPG worlds ever created"

Now Playing: Divinity: Original Sin 2 Video Review

"It was very important to us to have Divinity: Original Sin II distributed by a team that understands how to bring RPGs to a broad audience," added Swen Vincke, CEO of developer Larian Studios. "With Dark Souls and The Witcher, Bandai Namco demonstrated they know how to do exactly that and so I'm very happy we’ll have their support."

In GameSpot's Divinity: Original Sin II review the game was awarded a 10/10, with critic Brett Todd praised its "immaculately conceived and emotion-wrought fantasy world," alongside "brilliant tactical combat" that makes it "one of the finest games of the year."

Divinity: Original Sin II was No.5 in GameSpot's Best Games of 2017 list. Reflecting on the title, Jess McDonell said it "exceeds the accomplishments of its predecessor as a spectacularly crafted RPG that ranks among the greats of the genre."

Just like D:OS 1 Enhanced Edition, this will be the best version. The D:OS experience was fantastic on PS4, with great controls and interface. With games like this and Pillars of Eternity 2 coming to console, I many never touch my PC again.

It's gonna look like crap then. And have a lot of visuals completely gone. 1080 Ti and still get fps drops into the 30s.

Nice. I really enjoyed the first game and was waiting and hoping for a port of the sequel to consoles.

Proof that turn based RPGs aren't dead. In fact, lately they've been GotY contenders.

@Barighm: this one shipped with a ton of game breaking bugs and quests that just end when you know they were not meant to. It doesn't deserve more than an 8/10

Simply amazing RPGs... Play both of them on whatever platform you can!

Oh, and these guys do controller interfaces and couch co-op even better than Diablo3:UEE, which is saying something.

I started playing PoE and I need to know: does this game have that thing where you spend all your resources building up a hub and then you go on a quest and immediately it tells you you're being attacked and have to leave? I dont like that.

@snugglebear: Nope. While you do have a home base of sorts, you're not really even required to go there very often if you don't want to. Also, there are no resources you have to put into it and it never just randomly comes under attack, so you will never have to drop what you are doing to go back there (unless you want to re-spec your character. But again, that's optional).

@The_Stand_In: Ok, thanks. I really liked what I played of that game that isn't Divinity 2, but that part of it annoyed me. I dont even mind having a base and upgrading it, it's just the "You literally just left on an important journey but turn around"

Great news but will it be something which console gamers buy to the point where Obsidian will break even?

I enjoy these type of games and will welcome the chance to play it due to having a PC which struggles to play minesweeper these days but the demographic who enjoy these types of game will own a PC anyway.

@gotrekfabian: I'll definitely do my part spreading the information around. I for one I'm eager to challenge the narrative that console gamers only enjoy triple A third person action adventures and want more games like this to be released simultaneously on consoles and PCs. I hope this game will be released early August so that I'll have time to complete it before Spider-Man.

Played the last Divinity game (on PC) where you start the game making a couple of characters (one woman and one man) and i couldnt find it enjoyable. It is the same?

@everson_rm: same. I strongly dislike isometric viewpoint, which utterly destroys immersion for me, but I love JRPGs, turn based especially. I love a couple of WRPGs (Witcher 3...so maybe not a couple). I imagine this one will be isometric only, too, so sadly I'll have to pass.

@everson_rm: I'd recommend giving it another shot, if you feel up to it. It does start slow, but it picks up in the middle and end and is really worth it.

As for the second game, it starts off much faster and finds its rhythm much sooner, so that might make it appeal to you more. Also, the narrative is much darker and serious. The writing is also like 100x better as well.

As a side note, you don't HAVE to play the first Original Sin to understand the second. They are separated by hundreds of years and it takes place between other games in the franchise. However, you will miss out on some lore and events may be harder to understand at first but it does a good job of filling in the gaps.

@everson_rm: Also, I'm waist deep in the first one now, and I will say it takes some time to get going. I stuck with it, and I'm glad I did. But, won't lie, takes more than a couple hours to find its groove. If you've got the time, I'd recommend a second shot at it.

@gotrekfabian: Strange thing is that i loved games like Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter nights (both, although the first one was "real time"), Dragon Age:O. Hell, even Icewind dale (the poor cousin of Baldurs gate). Only this game gave me a hard time getting into it.

@everson_rm: I was the same but persevere with it if you still own it, it's gets better as you get further in.

I've played all of those RPG's you mentioned and many more btw
