PS4 Release Date for Gorgeous, Acclaimed Horror Game Ethan Carter Announced

Here is when The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will launch on PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 4 edition of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will be released very soon.

According to a PlayStation Store product page (spotted by Videogamer), the gorgeous, acclaimed adventure game will launch on Wednesday, July 15. This follows a statement from developer The Astronauts in late June that the game would launch in "mere weeks."

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, developed using the Unreal Engine 4, was originally released for PC in September 2014.

At the time, it received near-unanimous praise, including a 9/10 review from GameSpot critic Shaun McInnis.

"The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a stirring tale that walks a fine line between the human and the supernatural," he wrote. "As the layers begin to peel back, what you'll find is a story told with a level of cleverness and elegance rarely seen in games."

I enjoyed on PC, but didn't run that well on my surface pro. Its definitely worth playing. It would be great if they released it on Xbox One as well.

The game was interesting (even though some, like myself, may kind of guess what's really going on an hour or perhaps more before finishing it). I played it when I got a new PC from work, which was a total surprise, so I'm happy I played it. That said, it ran like crap, because I wanted to see it in all its max visuals. I don't know if I want to play it again. It was a game that I'd say I was just really, really happy to have gotten the chance to experience, but it wasn't really one of my top games of last year overall. Some aspects were standout.

@mkeezay22: No, actually, it's Unreal Engine 3 on the PC, but four on PS4. After that, it'll be re-released on PC with the new engine because they 'feel it's so much better', but for free for those that already purchased the game.

"At the time, it received near-unanimous praise" It's 82 on Metacritic and they themselves call it "Generally favorable reviews", which isn't quite the same as "near-unanimous praise", so let's not hype it up too much.

The game's got pretty graphics, but it uses pretension as a replacement for gameplay. And a lot of critics bought it. I think the asking price is a bit too high for a game like this.

@oldtobie: Please, do give us some examples of games that aren't purposely created to seem more important than they really are. I'm actually interested, so give it a shot. The very nature of video games is to create a situation of artificial importance.

@UniversalPie: You misunderstand. The game replaces decent gameplay for a slow, "look how beautiful our atmosphere is" attitude. Very few games do that. Most games are fun, and most games are worth the money. If you can justify the price point for what you're getting, great. I can't. I'm just expressing my opinion as to why.
