PS4 Valkyria Chronicles Sequel and Remake in Development

Valkyria: Azure Revolution demo to be included with Valkyria Chronicles Remastered.

Sega has announced Valkyria: Azure Revolution for PlayStation 4, along with a remastered version of cult PS3 strategy title Valkyria Chronicles.

No Caption Provided

Revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu, as reported on by Gematsu, Valkyria: Azure Revolution is set in a world where the Rus Empire has achieved rapid industrial revolution thanks to the discovery of a mineral called Ragnite.

The Empire has expanded its territory and, in the process, has placed a blockade on Jutland, a small country fighting for "independence and freedom."

The game's protagonist is a commanding officer in the Judland Kingom's Anti-Valkyria Unit. Other characters such as Ophelia, princess of Jutland, and Brynhildr, a Valkyria sided with the Rus Empire, have also been confirmed as appearing.

According to the site, the game's battle mechanics are called "LeGION," and is described as a real-time system with simulation elements, much like the previous game. It is suggested, however, multiple characters will be able to act simultaneously.

The game is being developed by Media Vision, which also developed Valkyria Chronicles 3 for PSP. The title is scheduled to launch in Japan in 2016. A demo will be included with Valkyria Chronicles Remaster, which will be available for PS4 on February 10 in Japan. The remaster will feature improved visuals, include DLC, and Trophy support.

It is unclear if these games will be released outside of Japan, as of yet. The last game in the series, the aforementioned Valkyria Chronicles 3, was not released in Western territories.

Do a survey here to support NA localization of the sequel.

Better ask someone else. Sega's done with the US. We'd better start praying that Nis America is listening. They're about the only other ones who'll localize them.

Please, SEGA. I'll buy your mediocre sonic games for the next five years, I just need this one game localised to the EU.

@ccanfield1: ONLY if you live in Europe. The chances of it hitting America are pretty slim.

Now remaster 2 and 3 for the PS4, (and ideally PC and Xbox One too), and release all these games and Azure Revolution in the US. Also, DON'T BE AFRAID TO ACTUALLY ADVERTISE YOUR PRODUCT SEGA!!! Too many people haven't heard of Valkyria Chronicles.

@barbarossa213: They did try advertising Valkyria Chronicles, there was even a giant launch party for press. They just didn't bother writing about any of it because they thought people wouldn't be interested. It's not SEGA's fault Valkyria Chronicles wasn't covered, hell some sites didn't even review it until months later.

@barrybarryk: Remember, they still blame US for the poor sales of VC 2 on the PSP. But if Sega would raise a pre-order for Valkyria Chronicles: Azure Revelations for US sales, I'd sign up in a heartbeat. Maybe they should raise them through KickStarter?

I really hope this new one comes out to PC like the first one (and, hopefully, not 6 years later). Loved the original.

The original Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 is one of the best SRPGs I've ever played, really hoping both of these PS4 games come to the west, or at least include English subtitles/menu options if I have to import.

Another "HD remaster"? Just get VC on pc for like 5-10 when it goes on sale doubt the PS4 version will look any better than that plus im sure just any store bought PC from the past 5 years can run it reasonably well.

As for the new VC game? Shut up and take my money!

@ghost140: Keep in mind the remaster may not come state side. This is Japan-only for now and PC gaming is a TINY section of the Japanese home games market. Most everyone there is either on mobile or on consoles. This explosion of Japanese classics on PC is driven almost entirely by western gamers.

News read : day made.

I just hope they release it in the US, VC was one of the most charming fun and appealing games I have ever had the pleasure playing. The English voice acting was superb and the characters each felt deep and rich. When I finished that game I felt as if I just said goodbye to some old friends. Cannot wait for this one!

The PS4 is region free, so all they have to do is include the English track with the remaster and then offer us the Japanese version. They don't even have to change the box art: just replace the "PS3" with "PS4" and boom.

If you like Valkyria Chronicles and want to play a similar game I recommend Lost Dimension for the PS3. It wasn't as deep as Valkyria Chronicles but well worth the time to pickup.

@GunEye: It has been sometime since I finished that game but story and combat were pretty good imo. The only negative thing I'd say would be the visuals and the lifeless color scheme/theme of the game.

If they could only remaster Valkyria Chronicles II and use the fan-translation of the third game and bring it over. I own the first game on PlayStation 3 and Steam, but I'll be getting this to support the release and for the demo of the new game. I love that Media Vision is developing this, but I have only one question: WHERE IS WILD ARMS 6?!

@Xristophoros: I actually own and love them all, but the top three that I would recommend are the first three in the series. Wild Arms 4 and 5 are great, but they changed up the battle system (some say for the better), and those two games have awesome stories, but they're very simplistic as you can achieve Level 100 with ease and after every battle, you get your Health restored to max. If you play and enjoy the first three, then seek out the rest; there is even one on the PSP called Wild Arms XF - it's a strategy RPG and tons of fun.
