PS4/PC "Rhythm Violence" Game Thumper Gets Release Date, Collector's Edition

Check out those colors, man.

Thumper is a crazy game. Developer Drool describes it as "rhythm violence," and from my time playing a demo of it, I can affirm that it's a sensory overload. Today, Drool announced in a post on the PlayStation Blog that we'll get to experience its psychedelic madness on October 13, the same day as the release of the PS VR headset.

It joins games like SuperHyperCube and Battlezone as launch titles for Sony's VR headset. Drool co-founder Marc Flury describes the VR version of the game as intense, stating, "We've fine-tuned movement speed, the scale of the game world, and our visual effects to create an overwhelming sense of speed and monumental dread."

Thankfully, if "monumental dread" sounds like too much to handle in virtual reality, the game will also have normal releases on PS4 and PC alongside the PS VR version. And, in addition to the release date, Drool also announced that there'll be a collector's edition of the game's soundtrack. The edition is being produced in partnership with iam8bit, and it'll include a game code for PS4 or PC and a vinyl album of Thumper's score.

The game will cost $20 when it releases on October 13. You can preorder the Collector's Edition from the iam8bit store here.
