PS4's Spider-Man, Battlefront 2, And Kingdom Hearts 3 Set For Big Reveals This Weekend

Let's see what D23 has in store for us.

Disney's big D23 convention takes place this weekend, and there's a good chance it'll be headlined by Star Wars: Episode VIII news. However, it's also shaping up to be a good weekend for gamers, as there'll be news about Insomniac's Spider-Man game, Star Wars: Battlefront II, and Kingdom Hearts III.

The reveals are coming as a part of D23's games show, called Level Up. It takes place tomorrow, June 15, at 1 PM PT/ 4 PM ET / 9 PM BST. It'll be livestreamed on Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube. Gaming personalities JackSepticEye and Strawburry17 will be hosting.

Now Playing: GS News Update: PS4's Spider-Man, Star Wars Battlefront 2, And Kingdom Hearts 3 Set For Big Reveals This Weekend

Of the three games to be talked about, Kingdom Hearts III is perhaps the most mysterious. The game has been long in development, having been originally announced way back in 2013. We recently got a new gameplay trailer, but otherwise we haven't heard much news about it. It'll be interesting to see what Disney shows off this weekend. The game is planned for launch no earlier than 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.

Star Wars: Battlefront II, meanwhile, launches on November 14 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It'll feature a full single-player campaign, and it will have an open beta test this October. Insomniac's Spider-Man is a PS4 exclusive, and we got our first look at gameplay at E3 2017. Check out the gameplay video here; Insomniac says its open world will be much larger than that of one of its previous games, Sunset Overdrive.

Spider-Man and a few others could be my only purchases for the second half of 2017. Definitely the next COD WW2 and maybe SWBF 2 if the campaign review is good. Spider-Man is a must buy just because I love the story driven, open world, super hero games. Way too few of them nowadays! I would love to see the Ultimate Alliance series show back up. Loved everything about those two games!

As for everything else, it'll depend on quality, reviews, and how much attention they give to us happily content lone wolf single players. Maybe a couple MP purchases but that's not nearly as much my thing as the previously mentioned SP heavy side of me.

Could have also included Destiny 2 but man, I'm just done with the grind and gating off of the highest tier gear if your thing isn't really MP but rather SP play. Sure other people will enjoy it though which is all good. There may still be enough for us other type of gamers or we'll just stretch out what we do get with less purchases.

The Spidey game could be a lot of fun....if they don't overdo anything yeah, totally fun but IMO a lot of games ruin things by overdoing QTE's so that's my only worry.....otherwise action., art and story seem solid...Spidey's movement is pretty good from what I've seen....

I'm excited for more news on Spider-Man and Star Wars: Battlefront 2. I couldn't care less about Kingdom Hearts III. That game is going to tank hard like The Last Guardian. Games in development that long rarely ever turn out well.

@pax_augusta: you sir, have no taste in video gaming. The Last Guardian did well and rightfully so. It was my favorite game of 2016 and it didn't get the respect it deserved.

Kingdom hearts 3 is looking amazing and we've only got a few looks at the game. It looks fun and beautiful and I can't wait to see more.

@linkbuscus01: Perhaps you are the one with no taste? TLG should have been canned five years. That game was a major disappointment and received the response it deserved.

For a game that's been in development for so long, it doesn't look that great to me. Then again, KHII was worse than the first game, and I wasn't a big fan of the original either. Take away FF and Disney and this game is forgettable. The gameplay is dated and so are the visuals.

@xenomorphalien: everybody doesn't realize that the beast was made to not respond perfectly. Did your dog automatically follow your commands when you first got it? Or did it have to be trained? Going in with the latter mindset made it to be a much more enjoyable experience. I did not find it to be a technical mess. I found it to be solid from beginning to end. Yes it was frustrating with the beast at times.. but the emotional attachment it creates with you is something that's very special and unique. Something I haven't seen in another game.

@xenomorphalien: that was a funny video. Those glitches must be rare, I never experienced it. I know the camerabhaf some minor issues but nothing to take away from yue great game that it is. I'm sure you can find glitches for any game on YouTube. But nowhere have I heard a tech disaster. If that was the case, it would have a much lower metatratic score.

Still cannot believe they own Pixar, Marvel, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars. It's scary what they're capable of.

@meatymisto: The question is what will be next on the list. DC, Looney Tunes etc. are probably too tight with Warner, but TMNT? Transformers? Terminator? Jurassic Park? Ghostbusters? Even The Simpsons?

@PrpleTrtleBuBum: I think all of those except for the Terminator IP are safe from Disney as they are owned by big megacorporations: Viacom (TMNT), Hasbro (Transformers), Comcast (Jurassic Park), Sony (GB) and Fox (Simpsons).

Poor Terminator has traded hands so often, and been so damaged by bad movies, that it could be easy pickings, especially once the U.S. rights revert back to James Cameron in 2019.

they own marvel so why would they even want DC? plus I'm sure Warner may own a chunk if not all of DC

Transformers is owned by Hasbro so again no chance

but with Lucasfilms and Marvel they don't need anything else for a while

@SirNormanislost: I was thinking that since Simpsons is steadily losing flame and with big changes ahead in future anyway as the cast gets older Fox could settle for a billion dollar contract to milk the last out drops out, but the point about Firefly is good.

Warner is one of the giants, but certainly someone at Disney is dreaming of Batman and Spiderman teaming up on regular basis, on the big screen and smaller screens.

Lucasfilms and Marvel were sort of smaller pickings, but they seemed to be surviving just as well by themselves also. Still no doubt someone at Disney is dreaming of expanding even more, though might be also true that Sony, Apple or one of those is looking at Disney instead.

I didn't think too hard with those examples, but then there are things like The Smurfs, Lucky Luke, Asterix, Tintin, the Nickelodeon stuff and something like Matrix and then the whole world from Mass Effect to Bioshock that could work as a Saturday morning cartoon or as a teen live-action movie or be featured in a Kingdom Hearts style of deal.

I'm not saying they will act soon, but considering what they did a few years ago it's funny to speculate what's the next goal after this "All the classic stories in live-action and MCU" phase

Lights go dim, screen fades to black and the crowd holds its breath. The disney logo appears on-screen, followed by square enix's and yet another remixed version of simple and clean starts playing.New gameplay trailer revealed!!!! Huge applause from the crowd and now everyone waits, prays: " please let it happen"..........and finally the screen says: KIngdom Hearts 3 coming soon! LOL, you thought you were getting a release date? dream on

@khanwashere: I'm getting a pro, but for now i'll use my PC monitor...

it will make the transition from playing on PC with 144HZ less painful, atleast the fps will be more stable with boost mode.

@ragnarockingz: Don't waste your money on a Pro. It's a gimmick console that's not worth the price tag. It can't play most games in native 4K and the marginal performance boost is not worth another $150 from the standard PS4. You are better off just getting a standard one and then picking up a PS5, which will likely be a true 4K console.

@Barighm: Why would I waste money on a fake 4K console when I have a GTX 1080 Ti that's actually powerful enough to play games at 60 fps in native 4K? I wouldn't. Not to mention, 4K HDR monitors are coming out in a few months. If you want to waste your money on a console that's hardly an upgrade from the standard PS4, be my guest!
