PS5 Games Event Rescheduled, Sony Confirms It's Coming Tomorrow
Sony's delayed PlayStation 5 games event will now take place this week.
Sony recently delayed its PS5 reveal event focused on games, and now it has rescheduled for a new date coming this week. After it was leaked through a Twitch ad that was displayed early, Sony has officially announced that the PS5 event will take place tomorrow, June 11, at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET. The event is expected to show more information on the games we can play for the system, including exclusives.
The broadcast will be streamed at 1080p and 30 frames per second. That's notable because 4K and frame rates of upwards of 60 FPS may be required to fully showcase what the PS5 has to offer, but Sony said in a PlayStation Blog post, "This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games you'll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you'd expect."
Sony also encouraged viewers to watch with headphones. "[T]here's some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it's pumped through your phone or laptop speakers," the post said. No further details were shared, but Sony has previously touted that PS5 will offer an evolution in sound.

Additionally, Sony confirmed to CNET that the PlayStation division will pledge $1 million to causes supporting the black community. It was the protests surrounding police brutality and the killing of George Floyd that prompted Sony to initially delay the event.
An image showing the new date and start time--albeit based on UK time--first made the rounds earlier today, including on ResetEra. When the event was first delayed, Sony gave no indication of how far back it planned to push the event. June 11 was previously set to be home to EA Play, although Electronic Arts recently delayed that by one week.
Even with confirmation that it's happening this week, we don't have a lot of information regarding what to expect from the PS5 event. Sony did confirm that it would show PS5 games and gameplay, but beyond that, we don't know if it will finally address any of the other big topics, such as price, release date, or what the physical system looks like.
