The PS5 Pro Has Received Its First Discount For Days Of Play 2025

PlayStation's high-powered PS5 Pro is available for $50 off alongside deals on more hardware, accessories, and games until June 11.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is discounted for the first time since its release last November. As part of PlayStation's Days of Play 2025 sale, the high-powered iteration on the PS5 is available for $650 at PlayStation Direct and major retailers such as Amazon and Walmart. The $50 discount will expire when the sale ends on June 11, unless retailers sell out of consoles before then. If you're looking to dive into the PlayStation ecosystem for the first time, there are also bundle deals for the PS5 Slim and PS5 Slim Digital.

PS5 Pro Store Pages:

Just like on the original PS5 and PS5 Slim, the PS5 Pro can be toggled between Performance and Quality modes in PlayStation Studios games as well as many third-party titles. It varies by game, but in general the strengths of each mode are markedly improved on PS5 Pro. Quality mode is capable of hitting true 4K (2160p) for supported games and boasts better lighting, shadows, and ray-tracing. In Performance Mode, the upscaling tech allows games to hit higher refresh rates without as noticeable of a drop in resolution. Some games have dedicated graphical upgrades for PS5 Pro, including Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Baldur's Gate 3.

I gots to hand it to Sony. They're ruthless.

When Microsoft raised prices across the board in NA, Sony not only didn't respond with their own price hikes, they left them out to dry to absorb all the bad PR on their own plus they dug the knife further in with these temporary price cuts.

Don't get me wrong, Sony will eventually raise prices too but they're holding off to let the competition suffer a little bit more.

If it was $650 with a drive and stand included, I'd trade in my o.g. PS5 for the Pro model. I only got a PS5 when I realized the FF7 remake would never make it to XBox as well as FF16. Plus, I can only get a digital copy of the FF 1-6 Remake on XBox. So I picked up FF7 part 1, part 2, 16, and 1-6 remake for the PS5. Stellar Blade too.

There are no plans for a PS6 or Switch 2 in my future. Just my aging gaming rig which I'll upgrade this year sometime and the next XBox.

Once it gets to $700 with a disc drive and stand, I might pull the trigger. But at this point, it’s probably better to wait for a PS6.

@mooglestar: it's 50 bucks. For already overpriced hardware. So. What. It's not permanent either. It's called a "sale". Not an impressive one either.

Also joined the PS5 Pro club a few months back. Went fully digital & added a PS Plus Premium subscription. The subscription alone, has already paid for itself. Not bothering with physical copies now. I've also got my Steam account for anything else. I've been digital only for a long time, so I just don't see that as an issue these days. I will say that the PS5 Pro is an absolute monster console. Nothing comes close to it. Even my beefy rig & graphics card languish in the PS5 Pro's horsepower. Unbelievable graphics & frame rates through the roof. I missed out on the PS4 & PS5 and went straight to the best money can buy & boy, was it worth it.

@ecurl143: does Sony pay for Gamespot comments now? Lol what exactly are your “beefy” rig and graphics card that are being surpassed by the PS5 Pro?

I was going to buy the 30th anniversary edition of the Pro, but they're all on eBay now for £10,000.... So well done Sony.

LOL, I don't touch my PS5 ever, why the heck would I spend $700 on a console without even a disc-based system...

Personally, if this was a upgraded Series X, I might have done it, I think they are killing it with Game Pass....

@Egotte: I moth balled all my consoles as I got burned out on them and just play on my PC as the PC is more beneficial to me. I am a pack rat so I will never sell my consoles and just give them to my son. Even if the Pro was at a lower price, I would still never buy one. The line between console and pc has started to blur with each generation.

I am looking forward to get my first PS5 in the form of the Pro console. I am betting that Cyberpunk 2077 will get an upgrade for the Pro console. I am really wishing for that. If that happens I would be playing that game in its best form without owning an approx. $2k PC.

In the meantime, I am excited for the upgraded GT7 at the very least. Don't really care about the rest of the announcements thus far.

@gamespotter_198: I"m right there with you I to was a PS5 holdout. I have suffered for years waiting and watching other people enjoy the PS5. I've only been able to see video's online and thats been ok but nothing is as good as having that controller in your hand and seeing and feeling the action. Just a few more days and its game on baby.

@gamespotter_198: Just a heads up ... Cyberpunk is an amazing experience. The atmosphere, the story - the entire emotional arc. I was lucky to play it on a high end PC with all the settings on max and while it is impressive, you quickly "forget" about it. Graphics can only impress for so long.

Long story short, you'll have a great experience on the Pro, even if there is no ray tracing or path tracing. Same with a regular base PS5. Enjoy the game!

@VegetarianZombi: well said. 100% agree with you. At a very minimum, I am looking forward to a default 4k60 even without any additional Pro upgrades from CDPR.

EDIT: also I've already played through the base game on my Series X. I had been waiting to play Phantom Liberty which I am going to now on the Pro and very much looking forward to it.

@gamespotter_198: You missed the review GS posted. It's not default 4k60fps. It can do better for sure. But Sony is entirely depending on AI upscaling for this. Granted games that do a pro patch for better optimization might hit 4k60 but those won't be every game.

Even scalpers who will flip anything want nothing to do with this thing which really surprises me but this console not doing well is good for everyone in the industry. The whole thing is nonsense it definitely not worth what they're asking and if they keep getting away with price gouging because folks are just that dumb other companies will continue to follow Sony's lead. I would've never in a million years thought PlayStation would be on the same shitty level as EA, Ubisoft, take 2 etc.

This is why PC gamers talk about you console buys. You are buying a product that only has one function that cost a fraction of what it cost to build it. PC's are a better investment than a console could ever be as you are buying multi-tasking machine whose basic functions are more than just gaming.

@jizzyjoker: Just like you said it can do some of the tasks that PC can handle but one cannot game on a smart phone if the game requires a lot of resources to do so and some of the settings that is found on a video card and also the game if available on the smart phone is weaker than what is available on a PC and another thing is screen size, Myself I cannot a game on a small screen as there is no immersion for me. I like 34" or greater. Also, on a smart phone you trick out your game so a Smart phone can never outperform an actual PC. However, one thing about a console if one game can run on a console it should run similarly to a console of the same make and why some prefer a console regardless of, they can't tinker with most of the settings.

@lonewolf1044: I'm not taking sides, but I think his point was you can buy a $500 game system and use the phone you already have to have for 99% of what most people need. This saving a ton of money by not spending $1500 on a PC for emails.

I see both sides. I only paid $550 for my laptop. It has 16gb ram, 1tb SSD, and am rtx 3050 6gb. I can run most games fine. SW Outlaws..med. high at 50-70fps. RDR2 70fps on high. Indiana Jones low/medium at 40-60fps..until I hit a level that was unplayable...lol. Now, this RTX 3050 isn't as powerful as a PS5 GPU I'm sure. But to be able to play everything (granted it's mostly 1080p) for $550 isn't bad. And I'm saving $400 every 5 years in psn fees.

On the flip side...By next year I'll be playing no new games. I have exactly 1 game that features local split screen. I have to worry about drivers and updates. And now my SW Squadrons won't work. More headaches and you lose that comfortable couch coop with family and friends.

no because sony gets parts much cheaper than you would if you went out and bought a pc equal to a pro.
