PS5's Bugsnax Is A First-Person Adventure With A Mystery At Its Core
Although the island hosts colorful and playful creatures, there's a mystery to be solved on PS5, PS4, and PC later this year.
Bugsnax certainly stood out during the recent PS5 reveal stream, with Octodad developer Young Horses revealing an island inhabited by creatures that are half snack, half bug. It's a strange and oddly alluring premise which plays host to a mix of mystery and exploration.
In an interview with USGamer, Young Horses co-founder Philip Tibitoski opened up about just what the studio's new game really is. At its core, Bugsnax is a first-person adventure where you'll be observing and documenting over 100 different types of snack-like creatures. You'll have to figure out how they behave, what areas of the island they occupy, and, most importantly, what happens to you when you eat them.
But Bugsnax isn't just about documentation. As a journalist invited to the island, you're also tasked with tracking down your host, Megafig, who has mysteriously disappeared. As teased near the end of the reveal trailer, not everything is as whimsical as it seems on the island, and it's up to you to uncover its less-savory aspects.
Launching on the PS5, Bugsnax will also make use of the DualSense controller's new features to allow you to feel each Bugsnak (the official singular term) as you catch them. "Now, it feels like it makes a big difference in the game, whether it's running through a stream of water or, when trying to catch a Bugsnak, it being in your trap and finding 'Oh, is it trying to escape?' You can feel how intense it is and how close it is to escaping," Tibitoski explained.
Bugsnax isn't a PS5 exclusive, though, and will launch on PS4 as well as PC (via the Epic Games Store) later this year.
