PSA: Gears of War 4 Beta Begins Today for Some

Did you play Gears of War Ultimate Edition? Your code should arrive soon.

The Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta starts its rollout today, April 18, for some players. As announced previously, people who played Gears of War Ultimate Edition on Xbox One and PC before April 11 are getting in first through the "early access" period. Tokens are being distributed in chronological order based on when you played Gears of War Ultimate Edition and should all be delivered by this Thursday, April 21.

Now Playing: Gears of War 4 Beta - 14 Minutes of Team Deathmatch

If you didn't play Gears of War Ultimate Edition, you'll still be able to play Gears of War 4's beta. After the early access period ends on April 24, an open beta will begin on April 25 and run through May 1.

Alternatively, if you're attending PAX East in Boston this week, you can play the game's multiplayer mode at the show. For lots more on the Gears of War 4 beta, check out this detailed FAQ.

While you wait to get in to the beta, you can check out this video that covers eight tips to help you succeed. Players who reach level 20 in the beta will be rewarded with special content when Gears of War 4 launches in October.

Funny thing. Got beta for Gears of War 4, got key for Fallout4 Forza6 car TODAY, but still did not get any Alan Wake backwards compatibility and Quantum Break Windows 10 PC codes.

I got the game on launch and still haven't received a code. Has anyone here gotten one? Honestly... this seems like a shitty way to give out beta codes. It would have been much easier to have the beta client connected to the GOW Ultimate disc.

@frizzkills: That's what i said earlier should be able to load up the game and get the beta from there.I played it at midnight still haven't gotten my code.Yet a friend of mine played it 2 weeks after the game was released and already got his code.There was no reason to do it this way and it's just a slap in face by the coalition to the people that bought the game to get into the beta early

Looks good. Lancer looks a bit overpowered but it is a beta. I'm glad it looks more like Ultimate Edition and Gears 3 combined and not like Judgment. Can't wait to test this out.

@da_trufe8309: What exactly was wrong with Judgement? I see a lot of people hoping it's not like that game, but I just assumed Judgement was more-or-less the same as GoW 3 (which was great imo, my favorite of the series). Did they really change up the MP dynamic a lot in that game or what?

I agree this game is looking a lot like GOW3, which is a good thing imo, as long as it offers a nice robust variety of game-types the same as 3 did, and to this day that's the only game that had a hoard mode I actually enjoyed so I'm really hoping they can build on that too.

@nl_skipper: Those of us that *LOVED* the MP * Co-Op of Horde, Beast, and Judgment's "Beast-vs-Horde" are getting utterly fcked with this new Gears.

It's the e-sports crowd that's running (ruining) the show now. You can plan on ONLY competitive modes, far fewer weapons, fewer game types, fewer lists, and millions of microtransaction-based "play dress-up" options. It genuinely saddens me that the 4-player Co-Op campaign, Horde, and Beast modes that I used to bring a bunch of new Gears players into the fold with, have now sustained a year-long campaign from Rod & co about how they were some kind of mockery. Good luck with the tiny population of e-sports players, Rod.

Look, I played (and occasionally STILL play) plenty of competitive MP in Gears -- but it's *always* in Gears3. I hold my own quite well, at that. Tons of maps, tons of modes, tons of weapons to use, and still thousands of players on every night. ...and my social MP gamer friends are ALWAYS still up for some Gears3 -- two of them asked for Horde just last night.

It just occurred to me what the facepalm-obvious contingency plan is here: They're going to fail hard with preorder & initial sales numbers, then announce the return of Horde mode with paid DLC, acting like it was their intention all along. (I'll save this post for future reference...)

Cant wait to try it out, looks really great. Hope it is like GoW 3 both mp and story were great. Judgement however... if it is anything like that crappy game I will be sad.
