PSN intrusion brings down SOE games, websites

this is just so disappointing, Sony has really lost everything that made it special, this is the last console i ever buy, its back to PC gaming for me, and if i do ever buy a console it wont be a Sony brand that's for sure, Thanks Sony for your in ability to properly secure our data from intrusions, as a tech company intrusions are something that should remain a priority during programing of any database or code, and for Sony as a company to fail at this just shows there lack of concern to its fans and customers.

I am really not surprised by all of this, only inconvenienced by Sony insipidness. It is not their fault that the higher ups of Sony stated they were not hackable. It is not their fault that the loyalty to their employees, and the quality that made them great has taken a turn for profit. However, it is their fault for not treating their loyal customer that made Sony great to begin with as their number one goal. In the long run when this blows over we will change our accounts and credit cards, and we will gladly give it to them once again when this is all over and done with for the sake of our amusement and entertainment. Personally I dont think any of the 24.6 million records that were stolen are unique in any way, our information is expendable and can be reimbursed. Our credit come and goes and is only important to us the little guy. Sonys outlook on their operations. Sony is looking out for Sony not you or me. They got caught with their trousers down and look awkward, so what, we have been taken for a ride with substandard crap for years and expected nothing better. Im just sorry they took me for $199.00 lifetime on DC Universe Online and the game is not what it was cracked up to be. Wish you all well and see you on the next forum. PC rules never forget that.

I say the hacking of psn is kind of like 9/11 if I could put it that way... Terrorism was always there and they knew osama did attack US before then but they didn't expect him to do it like he did on that day which the phrase "suicide bomber" became really popular to describe his methods, they did it by any means necessary even if it cost them their lives... A faceless enemy with a bomb attached to them, without any warning or knowing when they'll strike but it only took til the collapse of the trade center killing thousands of ppl that made the government realize they must take serious measures in preventing terrorist attacks... Just like the psn until something that will cost thousands or millions of damage, 70 milli personal info compromised by hackers that causes major panic fearing the possibility of identity theft or losing their money cause of exposed cc numbers... I think its in human nature to take precaution but always have it in the back of their mind what the worst scenario can be but too lazy or cheap to take that possibility that it might happen and we only do til someone dies or worst thousands or millions are effected... And it took 10 yrs til we finally killed osama by luck I heard but these hackers aren't physically there without almost any trace.. Finding them will be challenging but maybe by luck we will but hopefully not 10 yrs later... So we can't fully blame sony for what happened, this could have happened to anyone or any organization, we must unite,

Poor Sony and PSN users... :( I hope everything gets under control soon. No one deserves this.

Hopefully this little security upgrade helps keep PS3 from being a haven for cheaters and hackers like XBL is.

Not just that, Microsoft didn't make the mistake of pissing off hackers. Removing key features such as the OtherOS or showing arrogance in boasting about their "hack-proof" network. In fact MS is known to acknolwdege hackers & script kiddies hence the freebie device they gave to Mr. Hotz. Additionally they've built layers of firewalls around Xbox LIVE, now XBL ain't invincible, anything is hackable if you try hard enough. With more protection MS has taken the liberty installing, it greatly reduces their chances of being targeted.

@KillerX5187 What is your source for this? I can't picture SOE not encrypting CC data in 2007, since it did back in 1999.

It was an unencyprted database from 2007 that was filled with CC and other info. So if you used a CC with SOE back in 2007 check your banks and CC companys

According to reports 25 million more accounts where taken and the breach happened before the PSN hack.

@dizzyrhino- What about us who never used a credit card on PSN? Should I be worried about the credit card information I never used?

Like Sony said 'don't worry, most people don't even know what a trojan is' Like we said 'don't worry, Sony don't even know what a hacker is' Nah just messing around but the irony is quite funny compared to when they put trojans on the discs of innocent people. I'm not advoacating Sony go down or anything otherwise MS would have been down a long time ago too and we'd be left with just Nintendo and they get lazy enough with competition never mind without (when it comes to working with 3rd parties anyway, there 1st party output is pretty good). I'll probably get thumbed down for this post but just felt like saying it as a joke so don't take it seriously.

Has anyone even considered it could even be an attack by someone who works with Microsoft? im not saying I think its true but its still not unlikely, I mean it would make sense for an anonymous attack from a rival company. I haven't gone on my PS3 since I cant go online so I've been playing on the good old PSP outside while its been sunny. I hope it gets resolved soon enough.

@AuronAXE it's way too much of a coincidence that anonymous and Hotz were screwing with Sony when this happened. They figured out a way in but I bet someone involved in their "games" decided to take advantage of the holes they found.

High time we demand more free stuff from Sony. What they offered already was great but this is getting crazy now. My card and my dad's are with Sony. We'll have to pay to get them cancelled and renewed now.

@sumedh7 This was not a hack by the group known as "Anonymous" who claim to fight for gamers. Yes, technically the hackers were anonymous, but this had to be a job by REAL hackers with the intent of stealing and sabotaging data, not 12 year old kids learning how to use the Low Orbit Ion Cannon.

Sony gets to dictate your opinion and you don't even know it... Come on guys, think by yourself for once!

i just want to know when the exact date things will be up and running again, i am still being patient but an update last week said it would be fixed or somethings would be fixed

As mentioned on another site, this might be an inside job. SOE just fired 205 people. Pretty sure they are pissed.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was done on purpose with the FBI standing right there. Think of it as attempting to catch a rare pokemon....a scummy one albeit.

Okay, hackers like the ones over at Anonops.blogspot.com are pretty awesome. They destabilize governments run by dictators, fight for freedom of speech and peoples rights, bash organizations designed to steal the masses monetary funds, like the 'church if scientology', and so many other things, but the hackers doing this are just pissing everyone off.

remember this, things are never improved until the worse happens. law of life and industry unfortunately. at least they are trying to get one step ahead. if one system has been breach, then think the others may have to. kudos for the effort sony. and to the gamers, people cannot be prepared for EVERYTHING. think for a second, are you prepared for every single thing that MAY happen to you? and the fact that hackers unfortunately improves their skills, how can one hope to stop them? they cant, so they try to prevent as much as they can. people are never satisfy, so keep up the good work sony. by the way, pc and 360 owner, no ps3, so im not one of those fanboys that go trolling who is better then who.

Nikkei reported today that 12,700 customers credit card numbers were stolen from SOE yesterday. You would've that Sony would've learned it's lesson and also taken SOE down but obviously not. Once again Sony has failed their customers and doesn't get it.

SOE = Fail anyways.

How can you feel bad for people that were well aware of the security flaws and willingly chose to ignore them,not considering them a serious enough threat. if they didnt know of these flaws then they should be fired for being stupid. They know what weaknesses they have and sony admitted they knew of them. They prob didnt want to spend the extra money on securing it further and now this is what happens.

Giving these users free 30 days of psn plus and qriocity isn't going to help these players much lol. God.... I thought everquest would be enough for SOE to realize all the hazards of having a massive online service. With all the hacks in everquest? Apparently not.

I hope Anon and GeoHot aren't let off the hook for this, they started this mess and now it's got the FBI and other government agencies involved and they deny any involvement? If you didn't want the FBI on your back you shouldn't be trying to hack into things now should ya?

As much as it sucks to lose PSN for a few, I really feel bad for people who may be getting fired over a hack. It takes a real ass to hack a network and put people's jobs at risk just for the hell of it.

Sony had dropped the ball. Any respectable company with an online presence is bound to get attacked, companies need to be prepared for it. What does Sony do? fire a bunch of people, I really hope it wasn't network engineers because they need a bunch of those.

@dizzyrhino More than likely. I hope it doesn't because then all the mature 360 players that were empathetic to us will have no online play.

I am wondering if this has anything to do with all the layoffs and studio shutdowns which accounted for a third of the SOE staff. That is just horrible news. There are so many rumors about this issue, but its a possibility. Sony has made some enemies this year. lol.

Not to encourage console wars or anything but Xbox fan children are totally begging to be trolled when this happens to them.
