Rage The Scorchers DLC out today

New expansion for id Software's shooter adds six areas, "Ultra-Nightmare" difficulty mode, and Extended Play option.

New downloadable content for id Software's 2011 first-person shooter Rage is now available for Xbox 360 and PC gamers. "The Scorchers" costs $5 and will launch for PlayStation 3 in North America this afternoon, before a release in Europe tomorrow, December 19.

The Scorchers is a "brand-new adventure" for Rage that spans six new areas. Players will fight alongside new friendlies to defend the Hager Settlement from a nefarious group known as The Scorchers. New minigames and a "brutal" Nailgun weapon are also included with the DLC.

On top of the new content, The Scorchers brings an "Ultra-Nightmare" difficulty mode, as well as an "Extended Play" option to Rage. This allows gamers to play past the game's original ending to further collect achievements and items.

To be honest, Rage is a great game in all senses. I really enjoyed it. even replayed. But its greatest problem is that it is too short. I relied on its length but it sort of betrayed me. It is cool in gameplay, graphics, upgrades and so on, but it is f@cking short. I would like to play the sequel but I hope it will be long enough. So I would not be frustrated about it!

@Ortego13 @cking Didn't think RAGE was short at all. If you do all the side quests and all the racing challenges, you can easily get 20+ hours out of the game and then there's the co-op missions on top of that. No, it's not Skyrim numbers, but for a shooter, that's pretty damn good.

@WolfGrey @ClayMeow Friends! I might be wrong, but in my opinion, the truth lies in the middle of your comments. The game is a real fun, but it is short. I completed all sidequests, did absolutely everything and I still consider Rage to be short. Just hope that the sequel will be longer!

@Ortego13 I agree.. I liked the gameplay! I liked the graphics (and I played on PC, and had no problem that people talk about), but the leght os the game was ridiculous.. I would not play this game again.. That's that...

Well that price seems almost reasonable which is shocking for DLC. Maybe it's six areas and still only 90 minutes of gameplay but I'll stay positive and hope that it's at least 3-4 hours worth of gaming. Not really sure if I will pick this up though...finished this game months ago. Okay game but it felt like they forgot to include about half the content when they shipped it.

They sure waited a long time to put out DLC for this game, this game came out quite some time ago and considering the replayability of the game was pretty nil I'm sure most people have moved on from it by now. Makes it hard to sell your DLC if most people have migrated to other titles.

the game's ending left too sour a taste in my mouth. I enjoyed the game but would it kill id to spend time devising a cohesive ending that makes any sense?

I really wanted to get into this game, but when I recently started the it, it frozed every 10 seconds and I couldn't stand it any longer. Maybe if I'm patient it will smooth out...

@DarknautXXX was it on pc? that version is unplayable, but if you install it on the hard drive of the console version (i'm running it on xbox360) it should run silky smoooth 60 fps and unbelievably awesome looking graphics.

have to install all 3 discs, to get it to run properly, on the 360 version though.

No you do not have to install all three discs for the game to run properly, you only need to install the disc you are playing at the time. If you aren't playing the multiplayer, there is no reason to install the third disc. If you have finished the campaign and only working on the multiplayer portion, there is no need to have the first two discs installed.

console (xbox 360) version is killer if you install it to the hard drive.

been waiting forthis for a long time so glad they finally releaed something to make the game longer. going to go DL this now!

I really just want Id Software to wrap up Doom 4. I'm a huge wuss when it comes to horror games. Hell, i could barely get through Metro 2033 and Bioshock but the thought of a Doom game with modern graphics and Oculus Rift support ... Man its as if i WANT to traumatize myself with it.

I wouldn't describe bioshock as scary, but more creepy. there were times Id be outside a room, and hear those splicers rambling something insane and just not want to go in
