Rage The Scorchers DLC out today

New expansion for id Software's shooter adds six areas, "Ultra-Nightmare" difficulty mode, and Extended Play option.

New downloadable content for id Software's 2011 first-person shooter Rage is now available for Xbox 360 and PC gamers. "The Scorchers" costs $5 and will launch for PlayStation 3 in North America this afternoon, before a release in Europe tomorrow, December 19.

No Caption Provided

The Scorchers is a "brand-new adventure" for Rage that spans six new areas. Players will fight alongside new friendlies to defend the Hager Settlement from a nefarious group known as The Scorchers. New minigames and a "brutal" Nailgun weapon are also included with the DLC.

On top of the new content, The Scorchers brings an "Ultra-Nightmare" difficulty mode, as well as an "Extended Play" option to Rage. This allows gamers to play past the game's original ending to further collect achievements and items.

One of the few times reading the comments section is helpful. Seems like a lot of positive feedback about the DLC.

well, i played it for about 10 hours today (the dlc fits into the game in bits and pieces like the me2 dlc did), and it's flat out kickass!

the graphics in the scorcher city (looks like old ancient aztec ruins) are AMAZING! and it really adds A LOT to the game; a must have if you like rage.

Wow, I don't remember seeing any game lunch DLC after a year these days. It seems to be a big pack though.

I thought Rage was a really great game, and if it had a little more emphasis to a few of the aspects (story and atmosphere), it would have been superb all throughout. If you haven't played it yet, and you want a game that has great visuals as it runs smooth, and really fun shooting, this is a game you want to play. New enemy encounters throughout the game feels fresh as well.

I think, for me personally, from a scoring perspective, this is the perfect example of an 8.0 to 8.5; it is truly a really great experience with a few problems along the way. The setting to me seemed pretty great, but it kind of felt like it was just there instead of a character of its own; if that makes sense. The story, while adequate, didn't really feel too important, and the ending wasn't very good. There's some serious environmental pop-in, though only early on in the game.

I'm not sure if or when I'll play this DLC, but I'm glad people are saying it's worth it; it does sound good. If there's going to be a sequel, I hope that everything the first does right stays the same or is improved upon, but really, make the setting and story more central to the experience. I didn't care for the driving aspects in the game at all either, but it wasn't bad. When you run through the environment, it was just empty, and instead of the filler driving, it'd be nice to run through it and have smaller more interesting tasks that make you feel immersed in the world.

so i played RAGE anarchy edition, sewer missions, and scorchers for about 3 hours yesterday (started a new game to playthrough) and i have to say, IT'S KICKASS!

the DLC blends right into the game like mass effect 2 dlc did. so for 5 bucks this really adds A LOT to the game.

PS - the nail gun is AWESOME!

Looks okay. I kinda have no interest in playing rage again after that ending though. Would take a full blown sequel to do that.

If you havent played it, pick it up, its definitely worth a look. I like that the DLC adds something to the 'overall' game experience rather than just some new area, as in an entire new difficulty level. Makes replaying the game well worth it.

Make no mistake people, this is one fine piece of DLC. 5$, one new and absolutely amazing weapon, new levels, a couple of new faces and a small new storyline. Plus, one new difficulty and the option to replay any missions you want. Might be a good time to test that BFG ammo with the Pulse Rifle. On a side note, one full year later to release a snippet of DLC is very late in my book. Something definitely went wrong at id and Bethesda.

Rage was a great game once you accepted how UGLY the world textures were. I, too, hated on it for the terrible graphics, but after 40 hours and two playthroughs, I can say it had some of the tightest, most exciting FPS combat ever. It was pure FPS goodness, just like Doom 2 and such. Oh, but I also bought it for $5 on NewEgg so that helped...

@Brumbek The art itself was terrific. The tech behind it didn't play well with most systems.

Rage was a great game, I never understood the hate it got (Well, the PC version's hate was understandable). And at least they aren't charging a fortune for it.

@UnwantedSpam

It got hate b/c the driving aspects felt cheap and had no real impact on the game. They should've put the time from that into making the world more interactive and more story. Not too mention one of the worst endings in a game ever. It just ended out of nowhere. No final boss, nothing it just ends. It was just a very easy and boring game, and I doubt a ultra-hard mode a year later is going to save it.

Hmm, I might have to give it a chance. Never got around to finishing the game with the graphics problems I was having once it came out. Hopefully, they will have corrected them by now.

Hmm, seems like a fair price for what they're offering. Might be an incentive to play through that game again. I thought the ending was pretty bad, so I'd like to see what they add to that, even if it's just the ability to keep playing or whatever.

Kudos for making a CHEAP DLC! Personally, I think all DLC should be 5 dollars or less... unless it's a BIG DLC, even then, something like Dragonborn for Skyrim should only be 10 bucks - at the most. Xbox DLC is the worst, 3 halo maps for 10 bucks?!?!? Even 5 seems like a lot for 3 maps.... I grew up with UT... Free map packs for life....

I bought Rage for 5 bucks on Steam last month, haven't installed it cuz of the size. I'm psyched now to be able to play it from the beginning with these extras. :)

Honestly didn't think there was development still going on for this game. How many people are actually playing this? Wasn't this game the reason Doom 4 hasn't had development? Color me surprised.

@Pierce_Sparrow They probably are planing a game of the year edition. This way they can add a few new areas and sell new copies of Rage instead of making no money from used game sales. That be quite smart.

One of the best shooters finally got DLC. I really do not know why Rage was somehow overlooked by gaming community. This is not only the best looking shooter to date but it also have one of the most advanced AI so far.

It's well known fact that most of the FPS have rather dull stories. Rage is no different, BUT. But fantastic looking locations, various types of clever enemies that force you to use different weapons and items makes this game unique.

Also what I like is that this DLC seems a little more fer than those in games like AC, CoD, GR:FS.

@FanboyslayerPS 5 bucks for 6 new areas, a new enemy faction, a new weapon, and minigames. Plus the extra difficulty and extra play mode. Entitled much? How about all game companies give their shit for free and go out of business?

@phrozac Entitled much? I didn't say ANYTHING about being given the other stuff for free, but why on fucking earth should i pay for a difficulty that should of been in the game by default and the ability to continue doing missions after the final bout in the game? RIGHT I SHOULDN'T SO GET THE **** OFF ME BUDDY! Those two things should be free as a patch and no one will convince me otherwise.

@phrozac @FanboyslayerPS As much as I'm enjoying this converstion, I'd say I agree with OP that Difficulty and Post Game should've been a patch independent of the DLC so everyone gets it for free.

If they extended the ending and made it bearable I would re-buy the game and get this dlc but by just letting us play after the worst ending in gaming history is not enough to bring me back.

@auntbessie My lefty brother you can bind numpad 5 by editing the controls with this simple guide

1. Make a copy of your default.cfg file for backup just in case.

2. Change every entry you want to use Keypad 5 for. example; change 'bind "W" "_moveforward"' to 'bind "KP_5" "_moveforward"'.

3. From the ingame menu, load the default settings for keyboard/mouse. 4. You will see the number "5" in the entries you changed. Do not change them here or they won't work again!

Actually, in my experience, you dont see the number 5 but a blank space, but the 5 will be funtional (you also have to change the controls for vehicles)

@s_h_a_d_o Yes, so? The days of id being an independent developer are over, Bethesda are the only ones deciding what gets released and what doesn't.

So like I said, blame them instead, Willits has nothing to do with it.
