Rainbow Six Siege Year 2 Content Outlined, New Editions Now Available

If you missed out on the Year 1 season pass, you don't have to grind for its Operators.

After confirming a second year of content for Rainbow Six Siege, details of what players can expect from it were revealed through season pass listings. Now, Ubisoft has shared even more about what Year 2 will entail and how it's handling the retirement of the Year 1 season pass.

As those listings indicated, there will be a total of eight new Operators released over the course of Year 2. At least some of these will come from new counter-terrorist units from around the world, including those from Spain, Hong Kong, Poland, and South Korea. Those locations will also serve as the setting for the four new maps due out in Year 2. The first two Operators will be released in February 2017 (presumably alongside a map).

You can expect these to be out on a similar schedule to those in Year 1. As depicted in the image above, Ubisoft is splitting the year up into four seasons that will each get a big update.

One of the major perks of buying the season pass is immediate access to all DLC Operators in that year. Without it, you have to wait before they become available and then unlock them individually with in-game currency (which takes a long time to save up). With Year 2's season pass now available, Year 1's is gone. That raises the question of what happens for people who want to get Year 1's DLC Operators without grinding.

The Year 2 season pass won't grant you access to the Year 1 Operators. Instead, a new DLC pack called the Legacy Operator Bundle has been released that unlocks those eight characters for 2400 R6 Credits, an in-game currency you have to pay for (it amounts to about $20). The Year 2 season pass comes with 600 R6 Credits, which helps to put a dent in the cost of the bundle while still requiring you to fork over some money.

For those who are just now looking to get into the game, Ubisoft will introduce two new editions for sale. The Year 2 Gold Edition comes with the base game and the Year 2 season pass, while the Complete Edition includes all of that and the Legacy Operator Bundle.

The Gold Edition is out now for $80 on PS4 and PC, with an Xbox One version coming December 6. The Complete Edition is out now on PC for $100; an Xbox One version will follow on December 6 and a PS4 version at an unspecified date.

More details about what Year 2 consists of will be revealed early next year during the Six Invitational, a Siege fan event that runs from February 3-5.

Really cool. Ubisoft can usually suck a fat one, but good job on this one.

I bought the Rainbow Six Siege Gold Edition on Steam in Black Friday for about $20, cause I heard it comes with the season pass, so will I get the year 2 stuff, or only the year 1 stuff?

I'm glad that the game's getting more support, but I'd really, really prefer that they brought out some new game modes as well. There are a shedload of operators as it is (new maps wouldn't be bad though).

Umm... I have to PAY $20 MORE to play my Year 1 Season Pass operators? And yay, only 4 whole new maps in year 2!

Thanks Ubi, now you really lost me :-( Whats going on? Farcry Primal, The Division, and Siege have BURNT me so bad I have no faith in Ghost Recon so that won't bring me back either. Creed is even crapped now so maybe it was a good idea not to do a Creed this year :-\

Ubi: I hope Year 2 butchers your pockets & community, greedy half asses

I don't like those CTU units ... :\ maybe only Poland. Year 1 was a lot better in that term.

Looks like someone in Ubisoft is out of ideas ...

@WarFox89: What? Unless I'm mistaken, there are no details of what the operators are. What exactly is there to dislike?

@WarFox89: Sounds pretty good, plus those countries as map settings do sound exciting. Let's wait and see.

@WarFox89: Yeah, and? They don't give any details about what abilities the operators are going to have. What is there to dislike apart from the arbitrary countries?

@WarFox89: Well that makes no sense. Its not as if the SAS are the only ones with sledgehammers, or all the SWAT has is thermite charges :)..

When did playing a game and accessing all it has to offer evolved to this point? I understand that many like the game and play it loyally. But you pay $60 when the game is released and it's multiplayer only, which is fine because you knew this when you bought it. Then you find out this game is broken as hell and it takes several patches to get it into decent state. Then now you need a freaking diagram to figure out when you can access new content and how much it'll cost you. And by the way, all the new content is available immediately but unless you're paying for season pass you won't be able to access it all immediately but over a predetermined "schedule." To top it off, previous season content is "locked" unless you shell out $20 for it. Unless you buy season pass for year two then you get a little bit of credit towards previous season. WTF?! I was toying around with the idea of buying this game on sale but now am glad I passed on this pile of pure monetezation scheme. Not to be a prick but I hope this game dies QUICKLY before other publishers decide to copy such idiocy and it becomes a standard practice.

@rdwolf260: Well, the game is doing okay right now. Started back in may and it's only been getting better. Anyway i don't think there is anything on the market like Siege.

@rdwolf260: The bugs were inexcusable and I hope they improve their game for next year, but the season pass is entirely optional - you can unlock all the important aspects (the operators and maps) just by playing the game normally. It doesn't split up the player base like many other games do.
It's your loss if you decide to skip this game, it's one of my favourite MP games in a longggg time.

@rdwolf260: The game is awesome, its a really solid shooter and it wasn't completely broken at launch either, the patches just improved the game .. They are being upfront about the DLC and I'm cool with that I can choose to buy or not, I play best with a few of the base operators anyway so no drama.

Poland will probably be the JW GROM. Being of Polish heritage, I'm pleasently surprised about this news.
