Kid Detained After Sneaking On Stage At The Game Awards [Update]

What just happened?

The Game Awards went pretty much without a hiccup until the very bizarre end. It appears that a kid ended up on stage with the Elden Ring team and interrupted by mumbling something completely unrelated to the evening's proceedings into the mic. After The Game Awards ended, host Geoff Keighly confirmed that this individual has been arrested. [Update: The LAPD told Kotaku that no arrests were made, though a Game Awards spokesperson indicated he was detained by police for questioning.]

It's unclear what he exactly said, though Bill Clinton seemed to be mentioned, but it is clear that he was not part of the Elden Ring entourage who went up to accept the Game of the Year award.

As the team was making their way towards the stage, you can see the kid go up the stairs with the Elden Ring crew--even patting one of the dev's backs as he gets on stage. He mostly remained quiet until Hidetaka Miyazaki finished his speech.

It does appear that the kid was noticed since the camera cut to a wide shot, and security looked as if they were moving towards the stage. Though, it is surprising that he wasn't stopped or pulled off the stage earlier, or at the very least, had his mic cut when he leaned in to speak.

Geoff Keighley did not look very happy ending The Game Awards, to no surprise. But shortly after the event ended, Keighley announced that The Game Awards reached record viewership peaks on YouTube and Twitch.

California is not prosecuting criminals for shoplifting, mugging, raiding etc. But they will arrest a kid for going up on stage? Hilarious.

No one realized this was a secret boss, only appearing when you enter the stage, you can't beat him so you have to wait for him to be arrested by the police.

@sippio: I've always wondered who the hell is he and why is it his awards show? Is it because he ponies up the dough?

That seems unnecessarily hard an approach.

It was just stupid, no one was hurt, it wasn't a large inconvenience.

Don't be dicks and just be happy with your awards show being kind of a success.

This is the arrogant entitlement..

Look @ Geoff Keighly acting like he is someone important.

This is gaming not some formal official anything..

They made gaming little league.

The kid may be arrested but he likely wont be charged with anything hes a minor nothing happened really, he was not trespassing as he likely had a ticket. They kicked him out that's about the extent of the law that will take place.

@clubhouse: Ticket does not grant you access to the stage lol, that is the epitome of criminal trespass. Go to a concert, flash your ticket and proceed to walk on the stage and see if everyone just nods and tell you to go ahead.

@sippio: so at least 3 times you’ve made it clear you have a hate bonor for Keighly. We get it, you hate a legend, how bout you become someone successful in the gaming space instead of sitting there at home, mad about someone who doesn’t even know you exist?

I actually was able to make out what he said, more or less... The kid said; "I would like to nominate my friend and orthadox Rabbi, Bill Clinton." Or at least that's what I heard because he had an extremely thick accent and wasn't easy to understand.

At any rate, it was incredibly stupid, random, and definitely not worth getting arrested over. But then again, considering that he was in attendance at the Game Awards wearing a nice suit, he's probably some rich kid who will get bailed out by daddy before long.

@sippio: So you believe a ticket grants you access to the stage of an event? When you buy a ticket to the movies, are you allowed to go behind the concessions counter and get your own popcorn?

I love watching the game awards for stuff like this. There is almost always something that takes place to make you cringe. It's like a movie so bad it 180s to being fun to watch.

I love all the message board philosophers, who in the right mind actually cares, proper action was taken, no one was hurt. The end.
