Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart Is A PS5 Exclusive, Insomniac Confirms
Despite numerous Sony exclusives coming to PS4, Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank sequel definitely not one of them.
Although Sony previously suggested that all its next-generation titles would be exclusive to the upcoming PlayStation 5, the months since its initial reveal have been filled with announcements that many of them will be coming to PS4, too. That's not the case, however, for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
Responding to a question on Twitter, the official Insomniac Games answered unequivocally that their latest entry in the PlayStation franchise will only be coming to PS5. Considering all the dimension-hopping that the gameplay seems to feature, it makes sense that those mechanics might require the speed of the SSD that isn't present in Sony's older consoles. There is essentially no pause when moving to an entirely different area, which is something that even a more traditional SDD cannot do.
It’s a PS5 exclusive

It's a question that needed answering though, especially given Sony's decisions for many of its other first-party titles. Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Destruction All-Stars are all PS5 titles that initially seemed to be exclusive to the next-gen console but have since been revealed to be coming to PS4. Demon's Souls, Bluepoint Games' latest remake, is the only PS5 launch title alongside the preinstalled Astro's Playroom that will be exclusive to the console.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is one of Sony's exclusives still without a firm release date, with Insomniac suggesting that it will release in 2021. It only gave a vague "PS5 launch window" for the game. Guerrilla's sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn is expected in 2021, too, along with Sony Santa Monica's sequel to God of War and Polyphony's Gran Turismo 7. The PS5 launches next week on November 12.
