Red Dead Redemption 2 Might Be Coming To PC As Well

A Rockstar programmer potentially revealed a PC version on LinkedIn.

66 Comments

Though Red Dead Redemption 2 has been confirmed for both Xbox One and PS4, Rockstar hasn't announced whether the game is coming to PC as well. However, one of the programmers behind the game might have just let the answer slip.

A programmer at Rockstar updated their LinkedIn page to say they'd worked on RDR2 across PS4, Xbox One, and PC. VG247 confirmed the programmer does work for Rockstar and previously worked on both Grand Theft Auto V and L.A. Noire. Mention of the PC version of the game has since been removed, but it does hint that RDR2 might have a future on PC. Below is a screenshot of the LinkedIn page, courtesy of VG247, prior to the removal of the PC version.

Now Playing: Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Rumors - GameSpot Daily

No Caption Provided

Releasing a PC version of a game after the console versions have launched isn't a new tactic for Rockstar. The company previously used the same strategy with Grand Theft Auto V. GTA V was released on Xbox 360 and PS3 first, and then an updated PC version launched to match the upgraded Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game. GTA V had record breaking sales for Rockstar, and players who bought the game a second time for PC were probably heavy contributors to those numbers. Rockstar could be looking to repeat that success.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was curiously absent from E3 2018, along with several other titles. The game has quite a few different editions, each with their own complicated assortments of pre-order bonuses. It will release later this year on October 26.

I thought the first one was just ok, wasn't a fan of the guns available. But if a PC version was out with mods for machine guns and assault rifles I'd definitely buy it. Every time I was on my horse I wanted to pull out an Uzi and do a drive by but instead was stuck with a revolver or something

If that's your idea of a Western, why even bother?
There's hundreds of thousands of games with modern weapons.

Playing the game on PC is worth the wait. Rockstar should bring some mods or more cheats options for people who want to go through the game a second time without spending so much time on getting upgrades/weapons

Well, obviously. I'm not sure why this would come as a surprise to anyone. What kind of "news/leak" is this?

@jayskoon93: Well Red Dead Redemption was never released on PC, so Rockstar might have decided to do the same with RDR2. But it wouldn't be surprising that they make a PC port this time around, as this would increase their sales a bit

Well the game is amazing, one of the best I've ever played.. If it's out for PC I will probably buy it again, with or without the remaster (which I'll hope will happen).

I am pretty sure that this one will end up on PC. Sure it may not release at the same time as consoles, but won't be long after.

I could see them releasing a remaster of the original too afterwards.

Rockstar/@Take2 would be stupid if they will decide to skip PC. They will miss shitloads of money.

It will be similar to GTA V... wait a year or more if you want to play it on PC. As for me, I simply won't wait just to play it at 1440p 60fps. I'll take it at 1080p 30fps if it means getting it a whole year earlier.

@whatsazerg:

Speak for yourself I guess.
RDR 2 on PC would mean:
Higher res.
Higher frame rate.
Less input lag.
Lower price (overall on PC vs console)
Mods. (This one really matters)

Now I'm sure we will definitely get a release at some point, though like one of the poster below said this could have just been a mistake on the employee's part. Happens to me at least when I'm typing out the same thing again and again. If the employee did work on it then maybe the wait won't be so long like with GTA V.

Either way I look forward to playing it.

@kstaggs87: I don't get it, I'm primarily a PC gamer, and I would take it over any other platform hands down, but if you're going to do so much crying about not getting a particular game, why would you not just buy a bloody console. It's not like there aren't a shit ton of other exclusives on the PS4 for example which wouldn't make it worth your while, no matter what you're into.

@lonesamurai1: no one's disputing this, but what am I missing? Primarily PC gamer, just saying if you're crying about not getting a particular game, why not pick up a console, there's shit loads of exclusives to play. I think the question you should be asking yourself is... what are you missing... lol

@UltimateBastard: "why would you not just buy a bloody console"

Most of us PC gamers also have the consoles. The problem is that because we have both the PC and the consoles, we realize just how crappy it is to be locked into a single performance spectrum that barely holds up in comparison to the performance-tweaking abilities of the PC. With my PC, I can get that 60fps if I wanted to by simply tweaking graphics quality settings. With consoles, I don't have that choice - I'm locked to what's usally a subpar performance that the developer deems appropriate, and it's usally 30fps with noticable drops, just so they can choke some more high res textures or resolution out of the game and play it at a resolution that is pretty but unecessary. There's no option for me, the user, to get the experience I want from a console. Even then, as a PC gamer, I usually don't go around "crying" about first party exclusives for consoles. They're there for a reason - to sell those consoles. Third party developers like Rockstar, however, have no real allegience and therefore no legitimate reason for holding back on a PC release. I played the first Red Dead Redemption on the 360 because it was the better platform for the game back in the day, and it was an amazing game, however I still say it would've been even more amazing on the PC. That's why I'm eager to play RDR2 on PC, knowing full well that I can play an amazing game on a platform and quality of my own choosing.

Ultimately it shouldn’t matter if the game is already on consoles and comes to PC as well. Win win for everyone. That's my two cents anyways.

@UltimateBastard:Agreed.

I of course would get it for PC first and foremost, but if something is enough to make me really complain to the extent some do then I'd just pick a console up in one of the sales over the year. Current gen consoles can go for pretty dang cheap now days.

There are so many graphics whores these days too, 30 fps and some reduced graphics aren't all that bad. Yes, max graphics on a PC are incredible and I relish that, but it doesn't take away much from the experience of the game. It's like going to a high quality restaurant and ordering something very good, but that meal doesn't make you refuse to eat food that isn't of the same level.

We aren't locked into only one platform.

Only way I'll be playing it is if it's on PC. I think they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn't bring it to PC. GTA5 has done great on the PC.

I refuse to play this on console at 30fps. I will hold out for the PC version so I can play it properly.

@BassMan: Death to 30fps!!!

Seriously, if it's not 60fps it's half-assed. To paraphrase Dr. Ian Malcolm when he was talking about these new consoles and '4K' (which he totally would if he had the chance), "Oh yeah, oooh, ahhh, that's how it always starts. Then later there's stuttering and, um, tearing."

I won't believe it until it's officially announced. It could very well have been a mistake on the posters part. Maybe they were typing quickly and accidentally wrote PC out of habit. Maybe They were copy and pasting the console listing text they'd typed before for other instances and spaced on editing the PC bit out.

Sure it could also be true but until the official announcement comes it's better to just assume error or mistake rather than set yourself up for potential disappointment.

@phoenix1289: Okay, I understand what you are saying but I find it highly unlikely that an employee of Rockstar LEEDS is making such mistakes. Historically, that division of Rockstar has always been their division for porting games to PC.

Here's what I said last year:

If Rockstar Games are going to bring Red Dead to PC then more than likely they will have Rockstar Leeds working on the title of RDR to bring that to PC first, where it will do gangbusters and then later they will port RDR 2, 6 months to 1-year, post-release of RDR 2 to consoles.

I find it highly unlikely that an employee of the studio that ports games to various platforms will be making such silly mistakes.
