Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer Shows John Marston And Van Der Linde Gang

Get another look at Red Dead Redemption 2.

As promised, Rockstar Games has released a brand-new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, its eagerly anticipated open-world action game. This trailer is a more extensive look at the game's story, setting the mood for it and offering a better grasp of its narrative.

"America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed," reads Rockstar's official description. "After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee.

Now Playing: Red Dead Redemption 2 - Official Trailer 3

"With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him ... Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America at the dawn of the modern age."

The game feels like the end of the road for outlaws, who seem to feel their time has come. In one scene a group of people discuss Dutch, leader of the Van der Linde gang and antagonist of the first game. In a later scene a group of people are shown holding up the bank, and a voice refers to the "Sons of Dutch." Notably, we also see John Marston for the first time.

As previously detailed, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the "story of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive." Interestingly, there's also a character in the trailer who looks a lot like Red Dead Redemption's much-loved protagonist, John Marston (see the fourth image in the gallery above).

Other scenes featured in the video include a train robbery, as well as hijacking of a horse and carriage. You can see all of that in the video at the top of this page.

This is the third trailer to be released to date. The previous Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer arrived on September 29, 2017 and provided a fleeting look at the game's story, combat, and characters. We also got another look at Arthur Morgan, the game's protagonist, as well as the Van der Linde gang. See our full Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer breakdown for more on them.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will release on October 26, 2018. It will be available for PS4 and Xbox One. Take-Two, the parent company of developer Rockstar Games, has said it is "confident" that the game won't have another delay.

"The entire focus of this organisation is on delivering the highest quality entertainment experiences of any kind," CEO Strauss Zelnick said during an earnings call held in February. "More often than not, we feel proud that we're able to do that. All of our labels are focused on releasing a title when they reach that apex of effort and perfection. And in this instance, Rockstar Games felt more polish was required, and naturally we are in favour of that decision [to delay Red Dead Redemption 2]. The date of October 26 is set, and I am confident that will be the release date. We are incredibly excited about it."

If you're eager to dip into the world of Red Dead Redemption as soon as possible, the first Red Dead Redemption was recently updated for Xbox One X. With this patch installed, Red Dead Redemption on Xbox One X runs at a higher resolution and features other visual improvements. It's very impressive and currently stands as the definitive way to play Red Dead Redemption.

They could've called it something better, since "Red Dead Redemption" came after "Red Dead Revolver" why not "Red Dead XXXX"? Just adding a 2 isn't very original :)

@aross2004: Maybe. You know what I don't assume? The billions of $$$ that GTA 5 made on PC.

I'll get the definitive edition on PC when it inevitably comes.

Is it just me or do those graphics look very dated? No PC version announced in the trailer so they're going to have to spend some time polishing it up for the high demands of the PC audience.

It lacked focus and was full of mostly pointless dialogue. Basically a montage of randomly chosen two-second clips.

As stated by others; underwhelming indeed :(

Probably gonna be a good game though but i do wonder if Rockstar has pushed the envelope hard enough with this one. Being on the top all the time might have brought some jadedness over the years. I mean, from a developer standpoint; they make the same game over and over (architecture wise). Gotta take a toll at some point.

That's the most underwhelming trailer I've ever seen for such an event of a game.

@ukiyostudio: yea, i gotta agree with you there. the game looks fine... but it really does nothing to elevate my anticipation. in that regard the trailer fails.

@93ChevyNut: well, there has been no mention of pc whatsoever... so no, it is not coming to pc, at least at launch. maybe in 12-18 months after the console releases you can expect a pc port, but even that is not confirmed. i think it is fairly likely it will hit pc at some point considering how successful gta v was on pc but you will have to be patient and wait a while.

@Xristophoros: That's what I figured. I'll have a PS4 Pro by the time this comes out, so I'll just get it for that, but I thought I'd ask.

those animations are pretty stiff.

overall the trailer doesn't say much. The story could be extremely generic... let's wait and see.

I'm not holding my breath on this one though. Rockstar's lust for multiplayer money is pretty apparent these days

@furiouswk: well its a old western based game, u got to put your expectations for the story in that room, it will most definitely be generic. but its more about character, presentation, and narrative. but agree with the multiplayer crap, we will see

* Sigh* No game play at all?

There's already more Western games lined up and some even already out (Wild West Online is like an advanced RDR Online NOW)

Going to have to show me more than pre-rendered video clips to get me on this horse (even as much as I love RDR)

@blitxxx1981: while i agree that it would be nice to see gameplay, rockstar doesn't need to show any to sell 15-20m copies. based on the hype machine alone, rdr2 would sell just fine. i am far more sceptical than most when it comes to this game since i wasn't the biggest fan of the first entry for many different reasons... that said, i think rockstar will put out a gameplay trailer leading up to the launch of the game.

@gotrekfabian: I really hope you’re right, because the whole prequel-esque part of the game is turning me completely off. I don’t give a damn about the Van Der Linde gang. I care about the fallout of what happens at the end of RDR.

@gotrekfabian: That was sarcasm. It has already been established that this game takes place before RDR. They "called" it last year.

I don't mean to offend. Thought we'd have some fun.

@proceeder: Then your fun is somewhat poor. The significant part of my post is that it is also AFTER the events of RDR1.

Perhaps we should have some fun with your lack of comprehension and willingness to have fun with those whom you think aren't able to comprehend the facts?

I hope they dont stray too far from RDR. Some of my favorite things were the simple things, like the treasure hunting and side missions, some of which were wacky...

@chubby170: Yeah, playing poker with a card up my sleeve was great too. Sure, it was a way of making money when you needed it but it was just a plain and simple good fun side activity when you got tired of horse riding and killing.

Could the apparent protagonist be John Marston's older brother? The way the camera cuts from Marston's face to the other guy's face, close up as if to show the similarities (and difference of age) between the two, seems to indicate that. I don't remember in RDR's story if he had one.
