Remastered Lego Harry Potter Collection Coming, But Only for PS4

There are "enhanced graphics" and more for the new versions of Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 and 5-7.

The Lego Harry Potter games are being remastered in a new collection that will launch this October, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developer TT Games announced today.

Included in the package, which is only being released on PlayStation 4, are remastered versions of Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 and Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7. There are "enhanced graphics," along with better lighting and visual effects. No footage of the game has been released, but the key art is below.

The collection also comes with the Character Pack and the Spell Pack. The Character Pack adds 10 characters, including special variations on some characters like Hermione in a pink dress and Lockhart in a straightjacket.

Character Pack:

  • Godric Gryffindor
  • Harry (Yule Ball)
  • Helga Hufflepuff
  • Lockhart (Straightjacket)
  • Luna (Lion Head)
  • Peeves
  • Hermione (Pink Dress)
  • Ron Weasley (Ghoul)
  • Rowena Ravenclaw
  • Salazar Slytherin

The Spell Pack, meanwhile, adds these five spells for players to use: Cantis (makes you sing), Densaugeo (makes your teeth grow way too much), Ducklifors (turns you into a duck), Melofors (turns your head into a pumpkin), and Tentaclifors (turns your head into a tentacle).

As for why Warner Bros. is releasing this Lego Harry Potter package now, some five years after the release of Years 5-7, it may have something to do with the new movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Warner Bros. said the game, which comes out on October 18 for $50, "serves as a perfect gift" for people who are interested in seeing the movie.

Fantastic Beasts is a prequel to the Harry Potter books and movies, which the games are based on. The movie comes out on November 18.

Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 and 5-7 were released on multiple consoles in addition to PC, but as of now, the new collection is only confirmed for PS4. We have followed up with Warner Bros. in an attempt to find out if the collection could come to systems other than PS4.

Despite all the haters doing their thing on here, I for one, am a fan of anything LEGO does for the video game industry. I play them with my nephew and nieces who just so happen to love them, no matter how childish or stupid they may seem to others. So, its a go for me. Now, if they will just remaster LEGO: Indiana Jones & Pirates of the Caribbean!!!

Ehh. I enjoy a couple of the newer lego games like Jurassic World and SW: Episode VII because they've finally added voice acting. Even if it's just rips from the movie audio, it still adds life to the game that the earlier titles did not have. Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Pirates of the Caribbean just felt empty without it (especially that last one for lacking the witty banter of Captain Jack Sparrow.) The only way I would buy this remaster is if they overhauled everything with actual dialog from the movies. Otherwise I'm going to have to pass.

Can't wait to see all 200 polygons of those Lego characters in glorious 4k HD on my PS4 Pro! My pants are tightening just thinking about it.

Ok the remaster crap is getting out of hand now. $50 for two games you can buy on the 360 /PS3 for less than $10. How much of an upgrade can there be with a Lego game in the first place? Then only putting it on one system? That's really sort of stupid. I'll pass.

@coasterguy65: I dare you to buy the first one that cheap. It's disappearing because it's out of print and has no PSN version.

That's buy it now, but there are cheaper versions for auction, plus it's pretty simple to buy used at a pawn shop for less than $10. The one by me has copies for both the 360 and the PS3.

Lego Harry Potter Remastered - The Extra Harry Edition. Why oh why would we need a remaster of a Lego game? That's like putting Dijon on a Whopper - like anyone would notice enough difference to care. And why would they make it for one console only? Inquiring minds want to know.

it'll probably make no difference with better lighting and stuff. ps4 only, I think the xbox one and wii u could handle it too.

I just want games based on the books.
Or movies based entirely on the books.

In fact... How about you just give me a 7 hour long epic. Filled with all of the intricate details and plot points from the book.
And redo the Hobbit, while you're at it. Because that was terrible.
It was just really bad fan fiction at that point.

@vilified_signals: So study game/film making and do it the "right" way, your way. Or stop whining about other people's work. Don't like it don't watch it, and do it better yourself.

@wtf_666: Or, maybe, you sit down and be quiet.
Peter Jackson himself said that he had no idea what he was doing. Gamespot even covered it.
In no universe would a dirty moon beam drinker ever fall in love with a Dwarf. They're too full of themselves.
Smaug, as painted by J.R.R. Tolkien himself, had 4 legs. He was not a bat creature. That is not a Dragon. That is a Wyvern; minus the poison tail.

That is not High Fantasy. Nor is it There and Back Again: A Hobbit's Tale By Biblo Baggins
That is just fan fiction, and does the actual book no justice.
Never mind that the cool points of the book were completely covered up by Jackson going "Hey, Hey!, You remember that other movie trilogy I did? Huh? Huh? Do ya?" None of those things were ever in the book.

No, no. It is my right to criticize these things. Seeing as I am the person watching/playing these things.
Seeing as I am the fan. So, unless you have something constructive to say, sit down and be silent.

@silv3rst0rm: Look at the ancient $hit they are putting on VR. Lego games might be the next big thing for VR, since nothing else is getting it into the mainstream. Coz it's dead.

Wow, old Wii simple carnival games. IN VR!

"During the heady days of the Wii, there were only a scant few non-Nintendo games that managed to cash in on the short-lived motion control craze. Among them was Carnival Games, which sold more than 1.5 million copies on Nintendo’s console. Now publisher 2K is hoping to re-create that success in virtual reality.

A VR version of the game is set to launch in October, and much like the Wii game, the VR edition will feature a number of relatively simple carnival games adapted to work in a digital space. The dozen mini-games included will have you doing everything from scaling a castle wall to playing a few rounds of skee ball, though it’s unclear if or how they will make use of motion controllers like the Oculus Touch or PlayStation Move."
