Criterion Software announced on Monday the availability of RenderWare3 for the PlayStation2. Accelerating development schedules for companies, RenderWare3 has been fully optimized over the last six months to take advantage of the PlayStation2's unique architecture.

Mike King, Criterion Software's VP of marketing, said, "We have mastered the incredibly powerful and complex PlayStation2 so that game developers can now focus on developing their content, rather than first having to develop a 3D engine. This head start, together with the raw power of RenderWare, will ensure they're successful in what really matters to them - building great games on a great platform."

Fiona Sperry, producer of the futuristic racing game TrickStyle said, "RenderWare's cross-platform capability was tested by porting TrickStyle from the PC to the Playstation2 platform - and it took one programmer just one week to complete the initial port. Thanks to RenderWare, we were able to start optimizing in a matter of days. Amazing!"

According to Criterion, the gold release of RenderWare3 for the PlayStation2 will be available in November. Developers interested in checking out the beta program should click on the link to the right.
