Rent Assassin's Creed 4 at the grocery store? Redbox rumored to offer Xbox One, PS4, Wii U games

Redbox supposedly will begin offering Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U games next month.

Starting next month, you might be able to rent a copy of Super Mario 3D World or Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag while you're out shopping for groceries. According to NeoGAF forum members, the website for rental service Redbox last night listed Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U games in its "coming soon" tab.

Some of the games reportedly on offer are going to be Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Super Luigi Bros. U, Lego City Undercover, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and Thief. The listings have since been removed.

Of note, users are reporting that some Redbox locations around the country already offered Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U games. However, the rollout is now expected to widen to more markets.

Currently, Redbox only offers Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii games for rental. Redbox is an American movie and video game rental company with more than 39,000 locations across the US, many of which are grocery stores.

GameFly, which does not own and operate physical rental kiosks like Redbox does, already offers Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U games.

Redbox has offered Xbox One games at Bellevue, WA kiosks for months now. Xbox One games have been stocked a few days after the release of that game. I just picked up a copy of TitanFall today for approximately $2 a day :D

For their current video games you can rent how much does it cost per day to rent them at Redbox? I know there is one of these machines outside a grocery store near me but just wondered if you rent games for more days do you get a better deal?

Wow, what a story. Redbox, which is known for renting out video games might rent out video games. I guess you don't always learn something new everyday.

Red Box is getting Metal Gear Soled GZ soon. So hold off on spending full price to buy it. You can rent it for 2 bucks and bring it back the next day after you have beat it 5 times.

Funny how only one of those games listed there is not on Wii U while most are not on Xone nor Playstation 4.... but yet, Wii U has no games, right?

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> The main point is that the Wii U have almost all of those games, which make a very good catalog already.... the fact that the Xone and the PS4 have almost no game at all as of March 2014 is just an add-on.

Redbox has had Wii U games in certain markets for awhile now. I've been waiting for it to expand nationwide, or at least to Arizona, so I can quit buying games and just rent them on days I actually have time to play them.

I read some people say $2.00 is too much to rent a game. Are you crazy? Redbox rentals aren't due until 9:00pm the following day. Since they're open 24/7, I could rent a game as soon as I wake up on a Saturday, say 6:00am, and not have to return it til 9:00pm on Sunday. Sounds like a good deal to me.

@starcrafthenry Yeah, what I try to do is rent exactly at 12am on the day I want to rent it. Then it's almost like getting it for two days Also they have special offers through texts that allow you to get free game rentals every once in awhile. Text "GAMES" to 727272 and you usually get a free game rental a month.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's news because it was only Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii games that were available. Then the next-gen consoles show up but the games weren't available, now they are. News.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> That's what I mean, there have been PS4 and Xbone games since before launch for both systems not to mention WiiU games for even longer. This article just sounds like a paid advertisement to me which is why it's weird it's news.

So many games today are really long, it's hard to see how renting is worthwhile unless you're using it as a demo to decide whether to buy something, or you're renting a sports or fighting game you could play for a day or two and not need to finish.

I've been a Gamefly member since nearly its inception, starting in 2006. Absolute best service ever! Redbox has like a couple games in the machine and it just isn't worth $2.00 a day to rent unless you play the game for like 24 hours straight. Last Redbox game I rented was Enslaved:Odyssey to the West which I finished in one day. if you really want access to any game you desire, look no further than the Ultimate Gamefly Membership, they even buy shovelware games for people to rent, like virtually every given Wii 1 game.

Supposedly?

Its little risk, high reward.

Its all but guaranteed. Unless there is some political/religious disagreements between Redbox, and Sony/MS, I don't see why this won't happen.
