Resident Evil 0 HD Video Compares Nintendo 64 Prototype, Original, Remastered Graphics

See how far zombie rendering has come in the new trailer.

Capcom has released a new video for Resident Evil 0 HD, providing a visual comparison between the different versions of the game.

Unlike most comparison videos, Capcom has opted to take a deeper dive into the history of Resident Evil 0. The video brings together a prototype originally produced for the Nintendo 64 in 1999, the GameCube release from 2002, and the upcoming remastered version for comparison.

Capcom announced Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster (Biohazard 0 HD Remaster in Japan), a high-definition remake of 2002's GameCube-exclusive Resident Evil Zero in May 2015.

Along with better visuals, Resident Evil 0 HD will have improved sound, widescreen support, and the option to use a "modernised" control setup.

Resident Evil 0 is set before the events of the original Resident Evil, which Capcom also recently remade.

The game follows STARS officer Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen, a prisoner on death row. The duo must team-up to survive a virus that has resulted in a zombie outbreak.

In terms of gameplay, players can switch between the two characters at any time for the duration of the game, a feature called "partner zapping." Each character possesses unique abilities. Players can also control both characters simultaneously, or have them separate to cover more area when exploring.

Resident Evil 0 HD launches in early 2016 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360,Xbox One, and PC.

I know this is off topic a little bit but.... Why does the Japanese version of the game have English voices? As you can see at like 2:45 into the clip

looks like the prototype was envisoned on the RE1-3 engine :D I would actually love to play it !!! I would be even UBER happy if they remake the REmake but with the old 1996 RE graphics on an updated engine that only duplicates the 1996 version but includes some camera angles and rooms from the REmake xD that would be sweet. Similar to how Axiom Verge and Hotline Miami 1-2 duplicated 8-bit styled games :D

I'm truly happy that we're getting the 0 remaster! I never played it, it's the only one in the main series I never could play, so this makes me so happy. I can't wait.

Well, I already have 0 for the Gamecube, and I'm not gonna double dip just for a skinjob. But I would buy a completed version of the Prototype for the Nintendo 64, and I mean an actual physical box version for the N64, I don't mean a digital download for the newer consoles.

It does look significantly better, and I had a pretty good time with the original. I know they added "modernized controls" for the RE1 remaster, does anyone know how well that controlled since it was still pre-rendered backgrounds instead of over the shoulder?

Why not co-op? Capcom ruins games whenever they can.

Yet it's just a lighting an light texture change I'm not to exited about it I'll just play the game cube version. How ever it would be bad ass to play it on the n64. I just got resident evil 6 but I got it used at a pawn shop I'm so glad i didn't get that new..up yours capcom trying to kill the market with digital games but re6....it's only good for Leon's first chapter after that down hill, how ever it's nice they fixed the broken Ai but still broken.

This, like the 1st hd remake, needs to do well to show capcom that a RE2 remake is worth it.

The N64 version looked good for its time, though still not as nice as Code Veronica on the Dreamcast.

I'm confused.... I thought that Resident Evil 0 was the remake of the original Resident Evil... but thats obviously not the case.

Anyone care to educate me on where 0 fits into the development timeline?

It's, as the name suggests, a prequel to Resident Evil. Taking place in the hours leading up to the first game.

Those are Resident Evil 2/3 zombie sounds in the prototype if I'm not mistaken? My nostalgia beacon went off when the zombies fell down.

Everyone wants an hd resi 2. The difference is that the original resi and resi 0 already looked decent and were therefore fairly simple to remaster. If you want a resi 2 that looks like this then it would need a whole remake first, like the original had on gamecube.

@savagerodent: Capcom is near bankrupt. Only thing we seen from Capcom past months are upresed old games. Street Fighter 5 is in development only because of Sony backing it up.

@WESTBLADE: I don't see how Capcom could be doing bad. Besides their screw ups with some franchises, the Monster Hunter series sells so well. They can't be doing nearly as bad as Sega.

And remastering games is safe. They know it will sell and they aren't really taking any risks. That's why there are so many remasters and remakes anymore.

@savagerodent: If they were doing good, they would not need Sony financing SF5. I loved Capcom in the arcade/PS1/PS2 era, but they made some very bad decisions last gen that cost them big money.

Well, i still can't wait for SF5 (on PC, that is...) and still have some hopes for Resi 7 - i hope they understood what fans demand: return to it's survival horror roots, not that ''Resident of Duty 6'' bull.

@WESTBLADE: Yeah there is no denying that they made some bad decisions last gen.

SF5 will be fun on PC. And from what I've heard, Revelations 2 was alright, so maybe RE7 will be a lot better than RE6. I'm not getting my hopes up though.
