Resident Evil 2 Remake Takes Gore To New Levels Of Gross

Boasting proprietary "wet gore" tech!

Resident Evil has been known as a horror mainstay, even given its campy dialogue. Resident Evil 2 borrows liberally from later entries to make it more modernized horror, and given our look at E3 2018, a big part of that feeling is the visual style. There's no way to sugar-coat this: Resident Evil 2 is gross.

You can see for yourself in the video above. The famous doomed officer spills his guts like never before, leaving a mottled trail of viscera in his wake. It looks meaty and believable in a way that the series never has.

Now Playing: Resident Evil 2 Remake Gameplay - E3 2018

Capcom knows this, and has made it a selling point for its upcoming survival horror. A press release boasts that the proprietary RE Engine provides a photorealistic style, and "grotesque hordes of zombies are brought to life with a horrifyingly realistic wet gore effect." It's all enough to make the spine crawl, and it's likely only a taste (gross) of the final product.

For more on Resident Evil 2 Remake, check out our extended gameplay above, or take a look at the latest trailer. RE2 will come back from the dead on January 25, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

I guess by this time we can say Capcom had a game long in development and now they have decided to keep it DEEP DOWN into oblivion. What a pity.

I literally watched a 10 second clip of the guy getting ripped in half and turned it off. This game is gross! I don’t know if I can handle this anymore. The level of extreme gore and violence is extremely off putting and not what fans of the series (die-hard) have come to expect from the franchise. I was excited at first but now I won’t be buying this.

SAID NO RESIDENT EVIL FAN EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game looks unbelievable!!!!

I must confess, I didn’t watch all of the footage shown (and probably won’t with all the new info coming out.) as I don’t want anything to be ruined before I get my grubby little Ninja mitts on it. Yeah, I might watch a 10 second clip here or there but I want to go into this Remake with nothing potentially being ruined.

-You are aware that this is a 20 year old game, Ninja?-

It is????

-ARE YOU SURE? ? NINJA APPROVED-

Personally, I find this kind of horror too disturbing and sadistic to enjoy. You can see the sadism at play by the way the designers made the camera linger on the officer's face twisting in pain while he's mutilated. It's REALLY not healthy for the mind to watch too much of this kind of shit, so I'll be skipping this remake even though I'm a fan of the original. Back then, the horror was more campy than disturbing, and RE2 was mainly an action game.

@Rufus_the_rat: Jesus christ, no matter what, the old fanboys from resident evil will always find something to whine about.

@Rufus_the_rat: Different cups for different people, but it IS a horror game. Have you seen the cinematics from the 1998 game? These zombies were always intended to be real ugly and gross. And RE2 wasn't an action game at all, it is survival horror. The modern games (RE4 and up) are what I'd consider action by far. Besides, the modern ones are also somehow campier than the old ones. The old ones were mostly campy due to hilariously poor writing/translation - the modern ones just decided to throw away horror for co-op and action. Come on, we're talking Chris going on steroids and punching boulders, while the old games were pretty tame humans dealing with some effed up shiz.

Anyways, while it is a shame to be too sensitive to play what hopefully will be a great remake of a classic game, it is understandable. Don't speak for others though - there are millions of gamers who are quite stable and functional members of society despite playing stuff that is "not healthy for the mind" (violent games especially).

@Yurdle: Well said.

The original RE trilogy was never considered of the action game genre. It was survival horror.

Blame the english actors for making some scenes campy :P

"Barry, what IS this??"

"I think it's... BLOOD!"

@rezagtx2017: Grenade Launcher and Magnum with infinite ammo were rewards for completing the game under 3 hours. They were not available during your first run like in action games.
