Resident Evil Revelations 1 And 2 Coming To Switch, PS4/Xbox One Release Date Revealed

Four years later, Revelations is coming to Switch.

We already knew Resident Evil Revelations was coming to PS4 and Xbox One, but now publisher Capcom has announced when: the horror title will launch for Sony and Microsoft's latest consoles on August 29. In addition, the publisher revealed that Switch versions of both Revelations and its sequel will arrive in "late 2017."

This contradicts what Capcom has previously said about Switch versions of Resident Evil games; in January, around the launch of Resident Evil 7, producer Masachika Kawata said that Nintendo's console is "a very unique piece of hardware," but that Capcom had "no plans at the moment regarding Resident Evil on Switch."

The original Revelations was originally released for 3DS back in 2013, before eventually coming to PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Revelations 2, meanwhile, was an episodic title for last gen, current gen, PS Vita, and PC.

PS4/Xbox One versions of the original Revelations were announced in March, and some footage of them was shown off for the first time two months later. The game will see both a physical and digital release in Europe and North America, though it's unclear if that also applies to the Switch version or if that will be Eshop-only.

In our original Resident Evil Revelations review, critic Jane Douglas awarded the game an 8.5/10, calling it a "thoroughly successful crossbreeding of old-school chills and new-school action." Read the full review here.

This is awesome news, but I really hope Capcom will also bring Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 & 2 to Switch.

Revelations 1 was kinda good? I'd prefer seeing the resident evil 1 remaster on switch.

And dammit capcom, where is that re2 remake?

Regardless of what CAPCOM would've people believe, anyone looking for the classic Resident Evil experience (or at least something similar) won't find it in these titles. They're just crappy action games with RPG elements, uninspired all the way through, but at least they're not the worst games in the franchise. They certainly could've done a lot worse¹. So, rejoice and embrace the bullsh*$!

¹How's that for a silver lining?

@asnakeneverdies: Frankly, I enjoy the "crappy" action games with RPG elements way more than even the greatest horror titles. Those ARPG shooters have way more replay value. RE7? Terrific game, but I don't see myself playing it again. There really isn't any good reason to do so. A couple cool unlocks but nothing particularly intriguing, and most of the cooler extras are DLC. At least older horror titles had more unlockables.

@Barighm: Well, I don't know exactly what you consider a horror game to be, so I'll mostly ignore that first part except for saying that Resident Evil 7 (high production values notwithstanding) is an awful low benchmark for even the most rudimentary kind of greatness in Survival Horror design. I agree with you in that it had ridiculously low replay value, which is an important (but not fundamental) aspect of SH titles. I've played through it 5 times, but that's probably because I was excited to be able to play the first somewhat passable almost survival horror AAA title released since 2006.

@domiddian: Those are both action games in sci-fi settings, hardly horror, much less survival horror.

"We're all going to burn for what we did to you, Isaac." - Scientist Guy

Also, I find the games in that series to be so unbelievably stupid that every time I attempt to play the crappy action set pieces from the introductory sequence of the second game (I completed the first) I get to that part (the one from the quote above) and I've to quit playing in embarrassment. That's just minutes in! I've gone further than that since it was released, but the game takes itself too seriously for its own good, to the point I feel it insults my intelligence.

Dead Space is nothing but another series of crappy action games with RPG elements and horror aesthetics whose overwhelming success proves that EA's approach to validate game concepts through focus groups is wholly reliable.

You should be embarrassed for having made that suggestion!

@asnakeneverdies: No, no. You should be embarrassed by your supercilious rant. If you don't like the game, then fine, but don't go getting on your high horse about it. Otherwise people may think you're a bit of a dick.

I'm assuming these aren't remasters of some kind. It seems strange to suddenly be porting these titles over to PS4 otherwise.

@Starshine_M2A2: Not for Capcom it doesn't. Look how many versions of RE4 there are.

@Mogan: You'd think they're trying to break some kind of record with that game.

@Jinzo_111887: If RE4 isn't the most ported game, I'll bet it's real close.

From what I understand, there will be digital and physical on the switch. However, the physics version contains both games, the first being on the cartridge, and the second game has a download code.

Great chance for any who missed out on it's original release on the PS3/360 (technically those were ports from Nintendo’s handheld.).

For fans of the older entries I think this rendition was a great return to form to what made those original titles stand out. It wasn’t perfect that’s true but it somehow managed to capture the feel of the older games while updating the gameplay for a more modern era (Resident evil 4/5/6 controls.).

The funny thing about it was that it really felt like a full-fledged “numbered” entry rather than a side story. That’s unbelievable when you look back and realize it was originally made for a handheld (Revelations 1.).
