Resident Evil Zero And Code Veronica Are The Next Remakes For The Franchise - Report

Capcom reportedly continues to work on Resident Evil 9 as well, though it's not been officially announced.

The remake train will continue for Resident Evil, with Resident Evil Zero reportedly being one of two remakes in development at Capcom. Alongside the prequel, a reimagining of Resident Evil: Code Veronica is supposedly in the works, too.

According to well-known leaker Dusk Golem and corroborated by IGN, Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica are the next remake entries for the franchise, though no order was given to their release. Resident Evil Zero originally came out on Nintendo GameCube in 2002 and then received an HD remaster in 2016. Meanwhile, Resident Evil: Code Veronica released on Sega Dreamcast in 2000 before getting an HD remaster in 2011.

Last year, Capcom confirmed it was remaking more Resident Evil games. So far, the studio has reimagined Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4--with the last one coming out a little over a year ago. GameSpot's Resident Evil 4 remake review even awarded the game a perfect 10 rating.

One of these remakes could come out before the still-unannounced Resident Evil 9. That's because Dusk Golem says internally the game has been delayed to late 2025 at the earliest, with a 2026 launch a possibility as well. Dusk Golem previously reported that Resident Evil 9 could be an open-world game.

I'm happy for Zero and Code Veronica. I know they aren't the best games in the series, but Resident Evil games have a certain vibe, and I can enjoy them all.

capcom should remake old resident evil games 1st before re4 (which they already did) and also remake dino crisis 1 and 2 (3 sucks).

I know the remakes could be totally different and better than their originals, and I shouldn't judge them based on my experiences with those games, but these are probably the two RE games I’m least excited about seeing come back.

@probable: Yeah, I really didn't care for Code Veronica at all, and Zero wasn't terrible but of the RE games that haven't been remade I don't know Zero really brings much to the table.

I dunno i got a survey ages ago, and zero wasnt on the list but revelations and code veronica.

I would have preferred revelations since the queen zenobia incident ties directly with RE7- Village.

Ugh, Zero. It's not bad, but it is like 3: can't hold up against a better previous game.

@nilsdoen: 5 needs to be too reimagined to be worth it. It is already a good action game, if they go that direction again, it will not be worth it.

@santinegrete: For me the only thing that needs to be remade with 5 is that damn ending. Boulder punching, Wesker monster--just way to over the top and out of hand. I also remember that when 5 was first announced they had stated that the daylight would act as an "enemy". Not sure how that was supposed to play out but apparently they didn't either and shifted gears.

@deckard: RE5 had a dehydratation mechanic, direct sunlight would affect you more in that aspect. But they streamlined the game to be action oriented instead, scrapping that survival feature.

@nilsdoen: 5 will be a good one to remake... eventually. Let's get RE:CV and even a RE1 remake out first. With the rebooted continuity, these need their stories fleshed out in the remake "timeline" in order for RE5 to feel right.

@nilsdoen: I think we'll get 5 after the newer audience is introduced to Wesker and Chris' beef with each other. We need Veronica (and 1) for that to happen. A lot of newer fans aren't playing the older titles. They're starting with the remakes and 7.

So this dude makes a very broad and safe guess that capcom is remaking more Re games and the next installment is coming out. Do I get an article if I say "I heard from many sources across the internet that Nintendo is currently working on the next Zelda game. I swear they had no plans to make another but IT'S TRUE!"? Cuz that's pretty much what you're doing. Duskgolem is known for making very easy guesses then backtracks when they don't pan out. A real leak would be a title or release window. Not that they're "working on it". The Artwork for Re4 remake wesker that released almost a year ahead of its launch and before it was revealed was a real leak.
