Retailers Pleased With Dreamcast
Retailers across the US are predicting that strong sales for Sega's Dreamcast console will continue through the holidays.
Sega of America announced on Monday that retailers are predicting continued strong sales for Sega's Dreamcast console as this holiday season wraps up. According to the company, sales of the console have risen 42 percent since October, and demand has outstripped supply at many retailers.
"Sega Dreamcast has been, and will continue to be, one of the cornerstone products of our overall holiday retail sales," said Peter Roithmayr, vice president of Electronics Boutique. "We are expecting record numbers this year, thanks in part to the incredibly strong and sustained demand we have seen for the Sega Dreamcast."
Sega attributes a lot of the recent spurts in sales to numerous accolades the system has received in the past few weeks, including TIME Digital's Machine of the Year award.
"Our video-game sales have grown dramatically over the same period last year," said Steve Birke, vice president and general merchandise manager of Target Stores. "The Sega Dreamcast accounts for a significant portion of that increase. We are confident we will hit our best retail sales figures to date this holiday season."
