Rick & Morty Co-Creator Responds As McDonald's Apologizes For Szechuan Sauce Shortages

More sauce is on the way.

[UPDATE] Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland issued a statement on Twitter. He said he's unhappy with how things have played out. He also asked fans to be patient and understand with McDonald's workers.

The original story is below.

Today in news about this crazy world we live in, McDonald's has pledged to make Szechuan sauce more widely available after Rick & Morty fans complained. If you're just catching up, McDonald's originally announced that it was bringing back the sauce for one day. This happened recently, but people took issue with its scarce availability. So it's good news today that the fast food giant has apologised for the shortage and pledged to make the sauce more widely available in the future.

In a statement posted on Twitter, McDonald's said Szechuan sauce will be back this winter. And it won't be a one-day event, either, so you should have a better chance of just walking into your local restaurant and getting the sauce you so desire. You can read the full statement below, which contains more than a few cheeky Rick & Morty references.

Szechuan sauce was originally made to promote the 1998 movie Mulan, but it gained new popularity recently from its role in the show Rick & Morty. McDonald's had always said that the Szechaun sauce available on October 7 would be a very limited release but in some cases, people seemed to get pretty heated about not getting the sauce. In the video below, a crowd chanted "We want sauce." The police apparently showed up.

We tried the sauce recently. You can watch GameSpot's Michael Rougeau, Mat Elfring, and Tony Wilson, along with Entertainment Tonight's Ash Crossan, put it to the taste test right here.

The final episode of Rick and Morty's third season was, as expected, crazy and filled with references to unpack and plot points to analyse. As always, GameSpot's Buddy Hutton got to work and you can watch his Rick and Morty Season 3 Episode 10 "The Rickchurian Mortydate" breakdown here.

Im glad i was already a fan of the show because this type of faggotry would have stopped me from giving it a chance. Also, if you ever find yourself outside of a mcdonalds with 1000 other ppl, no matter the reason, kys because all hope is lost.

@nabinator: You could *maybe* make the argument for the pilot episode, which felt pretty improvisational. But outside of that, no it's not like Family Guy.

Rick and Morty is supposed to be a smart show but I swear its fans are some of the most immature people around. The clips I've seen, yikes! So maybe it's not that smart

How useless of a human being do you have to be to riot about something as trivial as a damn sauce at a fast food joint? A McDonald's sauce that isn't even good?

What is wrong with people?

@moose3469: "this is why we can't have nice things" comes to mind in regards to this... embarrassment. This is bad publicity for the show and it's fan base.

Literally just watched a video of some asshole climbing on the counter at a McDonald's and throwing a temper tantrum and them rolling around on the ground screaming.... This was an "adult"

@nabinator: yeah it was difficult to watch it was so embarrassing and shameful. All that over a single sauce packet.

And the moron probably wasn't even old enough to even remember the sauce from it's original release.

Just shows me the fans of this show are extremely stupid. Just because they used the sauce as part of a joke on the show makes you want to go rage over not being able to buy it, just because Mc Donald's thought it would be funny to bring it back for a day because it was a part of a joke on the show.

The reason most people were mad is that McDs stated the sauce would be available at 2 PM and many found that the limited stock (20 packets in most cities stores) were already depleted way before then. It's not just about the sauce, more like being set up to fail.

@Thanatos2k: http://ifunny.co/fun/eg8u6PWC5?s=cl

There is one example. Feel free to look up more. Though the fact that police had to be called into a McDonald's at all for fucking sauce pretty much says it all.

@darthbluntsaber: Called. Police get called on traffic accidents. There were no assaults. There were no arrests. So please again tell me who exactly was a "raging lunatic"? It seems like you're the one blowing it out of proportion.

@Thanatos2k: lol whatever you say. I'm guessing you got all pissy because you couldn't get sauce either? Either way your wrong. And you were already given a link to a perfect example. Or you could use some intelligence and do a little research yourself, little argumentative troll.

Besides you were the one CRYING about how they lied and employees stole sauce!! You are crying over sauce? Blow stuff our of proportion much?

Oh and there were cases of violence actually.

@darthbluntsaber: I couldn't care less about the sauce. I like how you appear to be the one crying about others, now throwing pathetic insults when challenged, oblivious to your own hypocrisy that you may be the only "raging lunatic" here.

I did my research. McDonald's is widely held to be the one to blame here, as their marketing promotion blew up in their face.

@Thanatos2k: I already showed you proof. Or are you too dumb to see it?

Lol. And clearly you didn't do research. Because aside from the video link I provided earlier, there are several other video and news articles proving what I stated. Or are you to oblivious to notice? Not even sure what you are fighting about.

And it didn't blow up. It worked perfectly. It gave them business and attention.

And here is that video again since you're too ignorant to find it yourself. https://youtu.be/0qbAj4HpJIo

Furthermore, what McDonald's did was a shady, but that doesn't excuse the way people acted. But you're defending these peoples actions, So you're clearly beyond reason.

Finally, I'm not raging over anything, merely disappointed in the way these so called adults handled themselves over a single cup of dipping sauce.

Oh and here is a quote from a police officer regarding one of the locations in LA. "Police responded to a call at the location," detective Ross Nemeroff told The Hollywood Reporter. Among the incidents on the call were "four males and females fist-fighting over tickets," said Nemeroff.

This shit is an embarrassment to the entirety of humanity. I wonder how many of those idiots were actually too young to even remember when the sauce came out or never even tried it to begin with. But because it was a joke on a tv show they had to act like mindless fucking drones.

P.s. I love rick and morty, but the way these people acted is fucking embarrassing.

@TheBigBadGRIM: I thought the same thing about Undertale, couldn't stand the fanbase, but then a friend bought me a copy and I gave it a shot. I'm really glad I did.

In the same vein, give Rick and Morty a shot. You don't have to associate yourself with the cringeworthy rabid fans, even if you do like the show. As long as you're not the one on the news swarming a McDonald's and angrily chanting, you'll be fine.

@yukushi: I'm reasonably certain that it's not poisoned, so McDonalds food probably isn't going to cause any more health problems than any other unhealthy lifestyle choices. You're not going to die from eating a Big Mac, but if someone eats over a hundred of them in less than a week, the problems not really with the burger there is it?
