Add another notch on the belt of Riot Games and League of Legends. In October of 2012, Riot stated that over 12 million play League of Legends daily. So what is that number less than a year and a half later?
Twenty seven million. Over double from the previous count.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the LCS is a major part of Riot's boost in numbers.
Gamers and industry watchers say Riot’s success stems in part from its many tournaments, which pit top players from around the world against one another. The last championship occurred in October in front of a sold-out crowd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The event was also watched online by more than 32 million people. - Ian Sherr, The Wall Street Journal
Here are some more staggering numbers:
Over 67 million people play League of Legends ... per month.
There are over 7.5 million people playing League of Legends concurrently during peak hours. In March of 2013, this number was 5 million.
