RIP Game Of Thrones' Coffee Cup: HBO Admits It's In Episode 4, Then Removes It

Bet they didn't spell her name correctly.

In an unexpected update, HBO has acknowledged the presence of the coffee cup in a statement issued to the press--and claimed it came from craft services, not Starbucks. It does, however, dispute what's inside, joking that Dany ordered a tea, not a coffee. HBO was pleased enough with its statement to even share it on Twitter, which you can see below. Following this joking statement, HBO went back and actually removed the cup from the shot; if you watch the episode now on HBO Go or HBO Now, you'll see it's missing from the table.

Game of Thrones is one of the biggest TV shows of all time. The HBO production has a major budget of millions of dollars behind it, a team of some of the most creative and talented people making it, and presumably dozens of people pouring over every frame to make sure it's perfect. But sometimes all that isn't enough to prevent the occasional mistake (or hot beverage receptacle) from slipping through, as some eagle-eyed viewers saw in Season 8, Episode 4, "The Last of the Starks."

Now Playing: Game Of Thrones Season 8, Episode 3 Breakdown -- The Long Night

Following Episode 3's massive battle against the Night King, the armies of Westeros kicked their feet back to celebrate their victory in Episode 4, "The Last of the Starks." Much merriment was being made, as heroes were celebrated and the wine was being consumed in copious quantities. Seated at the center of the head table was Daenerys, who watched as the people flocked around Jon Snow, singing praises of his prowess in battle. However, for those that were paying close attention, something in the scene stuck out like a sore thumb: No, it wasn't the forlorn look on Dany's face, though that was certainly noticeable. It was, in fact, a coffee cup--and what looks to be a Starbucks one, at that.

No Caption Provided

We're not talking about a tankard full of the North's finest coffee, we're talking about a straight up, modern day coffee cup like the one you'd have handed to you at a Starbucks. Naturally, that shouldn't have been there, and the internet is having a great time poking fun at the mishap.

Mistakes happen, and as it goes this one is pretty funny. It does make you wonder how no one managed to spot the coffee cup, though. But, y'know what, they've just defeated one of the biggest threats mankind has ever faced, so people are entitled to have a coffee. Thanks a latte, Dany.

Game of Thrones Episode 3 proved to be quite divisive among fans, but the follow-up has been more positively received. Check out our full Game of Thrones, Episode 4, "The Last of the Starks" review to see what we thought of it. You can also watch the preview trailer for Episode 5 and check out some fresh theories about where things will go from here. There are just two episodes left, but each one clocks in at 80 minutes, so there's still plenty left.

Literally a giant nothingburger that was worth a couple jokes and moving on. Anyone who thinks it was a big deal or some sort of evidence of something needs their head examined.

It's actually not that bad. It's one of those "unless someone told you it was there, you wouldn't see it" sort of things.

Gets me kinda worried what happens in next. In 3rd they did that kill which could be considered lazy and incompetent, now they aren't checking the sets when shooting. Will someone have his normal Armani shirt on and no one cares to shout "Cut" but just go with it? In the last episode maybe they don't even have the sets anymore but just shoot in some suburb.

Moment I saw this article, I went back to the episode to see for myself. Sure enough, there it was. That's amazing.
