River City Girls 2 And River City Girls Zero Announced
The beat-'em-up series returns with two new games.
River City Girls 2 and River City Girls Zero were just announced during Limited Run Games' E3 2021 presentation. River City Girls 2, the sequel to the 2019 beat-'em-up, is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC in 2022. River City Girls Zero is coming to Switch later in 2021.
We are thrilled to officially announce River City Girls 2 - coming to PC and consoles next year! River City Girls 2 will see you return to the mean streets of River City with familiar faces and new playable characters. You'll also be able to play the game online with two-player co-op. Developer WayForward is light on other details at this point, but one of the characters in the art released so far looks an awful lot like Marian Kelly.
For the uninitiated, Marian is the damsel in distress who gets punched in the stomach at the beginning of Double Dragon. She later appears in River City Girls running an accessory store called Swaggage. But, much more importantly, she's also sporting abs for days. That's a stomach that could break a few fists. Her arc from helpless damsel to face-punching heroine will be complete if she is indeed playable in River City Girls 2.
River City Girls Zero, meanwhile, brings back the 1994 Super Famicom original Shin Nekketsu Koha: Kunio-tachi no Banka--the first game featuring River City protagonists Misako and Kyoko. The 16-bit classic has been localized for the very first time and also includes a new anime opening, manga cutscenes, and a new song from River City Girls composer Megan McDuffee.
Developer WayForward confirmed that new games in the series were on the way last year.
The Limited Run Games presentation also featured a number of other announcements, including the return of Plumbers Don't Wear Ties and Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.
