Cinemaware has announced the development of its upcoming strategy game Robin Hood: Defender of the Crown. The game is based on the original Defender of the Crown, which was first released for the Commodore Amiga in 1986. Players assume the role of Robin Hood in a quest to save England from the tyranny of Prince John. To be successful, players must use strategy and quick reflexes to defeat the evil prince, rescue the good king Richard the Lionheart, and reunite England. In his quest, Robin Hood will have the help of his friends, including Little John, Friar Tuck, and Maid Marian.

The game features a blend of role-playing, action, and strategy. Throughout the course of the game, Robin Hood will have the opportunity to use archery, swordsmanship, siege warfare, and jousting. His quest takes him through a variety of environments, from jousting tournaments and fortresses to Sherwood Forest, where Robin and his band of merry men can take from the rich and give to the poor.

The game is currently in development at Cinemaware's offices in Redwood City, Calif. The developer has completed a playable prototype that demonstrates the gameplay and technology of the proprietary Cinematech 3D engine. The company is currently seeking a publisher for the game, which is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2002.
