Robin Hood Movie Trailer Makes Famous Thief A Superhero
Let's swash some buckles.
The classic character Robin Hood is preparing for another cinematic outing, this time envisioned as the medieval equivalent of a comic book hero. A new trailer (above) shows the title character pulling slow-mo, quick-draw stunts that would make Hawkeye jealous.
This latest iteration of the swashbuckling tale stars Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) as Robin and Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained) as Little John. The trailer looks as if Lionsgate hopes their Hood can compete with big-budget action films like those in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially given that the character is now given an iconic (and very superheroic) look with a hood and scarf acting like a mask.
"You don't become a legend for 800 years if you've just stolen a few bags of money from rich people to give to the poor," Bathurst said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "In my mind, Robin Hood was this sort of seriously militarized anarchist revolutionary, a freedom thinker and a truth seeker. And the more I got into the story, it just became startling how utterly relevant it is to what's going on in society now."
The adaptation is being directed by Otto Bathurst (Black Mirror). It will hit theaters on November 21.
