Rock Band 4 and Instruments to Cost $250

It's not cheap to be a rockstar.

Update: Harmonix has clarified that the bundle with the game and a guitar will be $120, not $170.

E3 2015 is about to get underway, but news about Rock Band is already appearing. According listings from retailers Amazon and Toys R Us, Rock Band 4 and instruments will cost you $250 together.

No Caption Provided

The bundle includes the game, a wireless guitar, a drum set, and a USB microphone. All that's missing is the additional guitar to complete your four-person group. But the most interesting thing about this kit is that the price is much higher than the bundle for the original Rock Band. That game, which came out in 2007, was sold in a bundle with a guitar, drum kit, and microphone for only $170.

If you just want to grab Rock Band 4 with a guitar, another listing shows that bundle at $170. However, if you already own instruments from previous Rock Band games, you can use those to play the upcoming game.

Rock Band 4 launches later this year for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but don't expect it to come to PC anytime soon. You can check out our impressions of the game here. Keep an eye on GameSpot for all news about Rock Band that comes out of E3 this week.

It was $200 when it came out, not $170... at least that's what I recall.

Considering guitar hero build quality was always better and will still be at $100,this is a bad idea and could kill the rock band franchise...

Give it a year... there'll be people everywhere practically giving them away.

$250 is certainly pricey, hopefully the controllers are more durable to justify that cost.

Considering the poor quality of the last hardware, this price tag better come with a huge overall hardware improvement. I remember the strum bar missing notes only days after using some of the guitars. The original drums were crap as well. No cymbals. Doh!

Things have gotten pricier in general since 2007, but it also depends on the build quality. The build of the new instruments might be better overall. I'm not sure that $250 is the right price to try and sell people on the idea that rhythm games are going to make a comeback. That seems steep to me when you're asking for a genre to come back into general relevance.

While $250 is definitely correct and pricy, you have a typo for the guitar bundle price, it is $130, not $170. Still pricy, but not "wow, they've gone completely insane" pricy.

@Hekteur: Well, that's why they are supporting the older instruments. It is actually $40 cheaper to play Rock Band 4 than Guitar Hero Live if you have an old guitar from either game.

If that's right, that sounds high to me. But the market will dictate what people are willing to pay and I'm sure they'll react accordingly.
