Rock Band setlist revealed

Harmonix rhythm game to feature 58 tracks, 51 of which will be original master recordings.

Activision's Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock struck the first blow in this holiday season's battle of the bands with its arrival in stores yesterday, but Rock Band creators Harmonix and MTV Games are ready to hit back. Rock Band demo kiosks began appearing in Best Buy stores over the weekend, and this morning the game's main setlist was finally announced.

When it's released in North America on November 20, Rock Band for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will feature 58 songs, 51 of which will be original master recordings. However, the games that come in the box are only part of the Rock Band plan. MTV and Harmonix are planning to release a steady stream of downloadable songs and albums for the game, including The Who's Who's Next and a selection of tracks from The Grateful Dead's body of work.

A PlayStation 2 edition of Rock Band will be released on December 18 in North America. The game is also scheduled for a European release in the first quarter of 2008. The main setlist of 45 songs is listed below. An additional 13 tracks from a variety of established and independent artists will also be unlocked as players progress in the game. MTV and Harmonix did not specify if the PS2 version's setlist would be identical to its current-generation counterparts.

Personally, I vote for more 60's...the 00's aren't bands I like, but the songs they've chosen definitely are fun to play (with possibly the exclusions of Welcome Home and Electric Version). From 00's I like Jet, OK Go, and RHCP...meanwhile, The Stones sit alone in the 60's...Abbey Road as future downloadable album FTW!!!

live tracks are generally imperfect... it wouldn't sound right if the player is forced into using the beats when the song they play along with isn't

Its a pretty sexy playlist. Even if all the songs aren't awesome most of them are classics, with the exception of the 00's.

I agree, this game looks awesome and Im hoping to get the full bundle. But some guy said before, if you cant be bothered learning the real instrument just go on rock band or guitar hero. Id rather practice and go inna real band one day ;) Its only a game

This game's going to rock really, i mean who can imagine that if you're not so good playing or you don't have instruments or anything in reality, you can just turn on your ps3,360 or ps2 and start rocking, good job harmonix / mtv

All this jazz about the setlist is moot. There's downloadable content planned for every week until the next year...I think we're going to be okay and this game is going to be HUGE!!! 25 hours as of this posting and I'll be walking away with my gigantic box of faux equipment. This is going to be a debauched Thankgsgiving. Food, Drinks, Rockband...I guess family, too...but mostly Rock Band.

Why are the covers mostly in the 1970's genre? Is that because the masters are harder to convert, or harder to get their hands on?!? I hope the cover of 'Ballroom Blitz' is spot-on.

To all the people complaining about the lack of metal music: Go play Guitar Hero. Seriously, (Not that this is an important feature to me) vocals on metal songs would be too hard and probably no fun. I'm satisfied with this list, thought it could be a bit longer, and I'm happy to see bands like Garbage and Jet in the game. Variety is not a bad thing.

Agreed. More metal. Older stuff. I think most fans of the game would really appreciate the classics. The initial tracks for download look good.

The reason they dont put alot of metal is because not many singers can growl for there lives and this game is ment for the hole bands enjoyment plus most metal songs use double bass drums so it would be impossible to play the drums part with only one foot peddle.
