Rock the Rink Ships for the PlayStation

Electronic Arts announced on Wednesday that Rock the Rink has shipped for the Sony PlayStation. The new ice-hockey title features plenty of action with over-the-top stunts and fights (think NFL Blitz on ice). Rock the Rink is currently available nationwide at a price of US$39.95.

"We felt there was a basic element of fun that could be dialed up in an arcade hockey game that has not been showcased before, so we set our imaginations loose and came up with NHL Rock the Rink," said NHL Rock the Rink producer, Kevin Wilkinson. "The elimination of rules gave us an amazing opportunity to restructure how to control the flow of the game, while creating the illusion of total bedlam. Putting a 'shot clock' on puck possession or setting the goal of the game as 'first to ten' makes players rethink their strategies, or abandon strategy altogether with the fun factor of head-to-head confrontation in this game."

Videogames.com editor Jeff Gerstmann reviewed Rock the Rink and stated that it is "amazingly exciting and makes a worthwhile purchase for anyone looking for a fast-paced competitive game." He gave the game an overall score of 8.8. The full review is linked to the right.
