Rocket League Goes Mad Max With Post-Apocalyptic DLC

Soccer-with-cars game Rocket League is getting Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic DLC in December, developer Psyonix has announced. The expansion, called Chaos Run, includes all manner of items inspired by the end of the world, including new cars, wheels, decals, antennas, and trophies, among other things.

Rocket League's $4 Chaos Run DLC includes:

• 2 New Battle-Cars, Ripper and Grog
• 12 New Decals (six for each new Battle-Car)
• 2 New Paint Types (Camo and Sun-Damaged)
• 2 New Wheels (Ripper and Grog)
• 2 New Rocket Trails (Sandstorm, Nuts and Bolts)
• 3 New Toppers (Boombox, Cow Skull, Mohawk)
• 3 New Antennas (Bomb Pole, Radioactive, Retro Ball – Wasteland)
• 5 New Trophies

Arriving alongside Chaos Run will be a free update for all players that introduces a new arena called Wasteland. It's based on the arena of the same name from Rocket League predecessor Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, and is the game's first "non-regulation" play space.

It's different in that it's physically wider than all of Rocket League's other stadiums. In addition, its booster placement is completely different from anything seen in the game before. What is likely to be the most notable change, however, is that the ground is sloped around the edges, which changes how it plays.

The Wasteland arena won't be the only non-traditional pitch for Rocket League, either.

"It's the first of many 'unusual' arena designs that we plan to introduce in the future, and they're only going to get more interesting from here," Psyonix said.

In addition to the free Wasteland arena, all Rocket League players are getting other free content like new music from Kevin Riepl and "several" new items for their garage, though these were not named outright. Not only that, but Psyonix teases that it has "some additional announcements" to make over the coming few weeks.

A firm release date for Chaos Run was not announced, but it'll be coming to PlayStation 4 and PC in "early" December. That's right around the time of Sony's PlayStation Experience community event.

Rocket League has been one of the surprise hits of the year. The game has passed 5 million downloads across PS4 and PC, selling over than 1 million copies on Steam alone. Psyonix has continued to keep up interest in the game through DLC campaigns like this latest one.
