Rockstar Plans Heavy PS2 Support
Rockstar, a division of Take-Two Interactive, is planning on heavily supporting the PlayStation2 platform.
GameSpot News has learned that Rockstar, a division of Take-Two Interactive, is planning on heavily supporting the PlayStation2 platform. According to sources at the company, at least seven titles are currently in the works for the PlayStation2, many of which should be ready for US release before the end of 2000.
Here are some of the titles you can expect to see soon on the PlayStation2 platform under the Rockstar Games label:
Duke Nukem - This title is being developed by n-Space, maker of Duke Nukem: Time to Kill and Duke Nukem: Planet of the Babes for the PlayStation. No details have been made available yet. Expect the game to be ready in 2001.
Midnight Club: Street Racing - A game based on illegal street racing. You'll take control of extremely fast cars and dangerously race down city streets against other members of the Midnight Club. Developed by Angel Studios, this game should be ready at, or shortly after, the PlayStation2 launch.
Getaway - Another title developed by Angel Studios. This one requires you to deliver contraband across borders while being chased down by the police. The premise sounds as though it'll make for a fun and intense gaming experience. Getaway should be ready at or around the PlayStation2 launch as well.
Austin Powers - A game based on the Austin Powers license is headed for the PlayStation2. How will it play? We have absolutely no idea. Hopefully it'll remain true to the license and provide some laughs. Expect this one to release before the end of 2000.
Halo - Being developed by Bungie Software, Halo is becoming one of the most highly anticipated PC games of the year. And it no doubt will be once it's officially announced for the PlayStation2 as well. Sources at Rockstar have confirmed it is coming to the PS2, but there's been no word yet as to whether Sony has approved the product for release yet. We can't imagine that Sony wouldn't approve Halo, though.
Grand Theft Auto - DMA Design is working on PlayStation2 projects, and one of them is believed to be a new Grand Theft Auto title. Rockstar has yet to announce any details.
What else can we expect to see from Rockstar on the PlayStation2 in the future? Well, there's always the chance that Kiss: Psycho Circus or Max Payne will make their way onto the next-generation PlayStation platform. And other candidates are titles such as Bungie Software's Oni, for which Rockstar Games has the console publishing rights.
