Rumored God Of War Remasters For PS5 Could Be Revealed In March

March 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the first God of War game, a prime opportunity to announce a remaster.

Remasters of the classic God of Wars games are reportedly in development, and it's rumored that they could be revealed next month, just in time for the 20th anniversary of the franchise.

According to reporter Jeff Grubb of GameSpot sister site Giant Bomb--who was commenting on artwork set to be shown off next month during a God of War anniversary event--the previous reports had been premature and he believes the rumored remasters will be announced near the March anniversary. "I think that those God of War remaster rumors just jumped the gun a little bit. That stuff will happen closer to this," Grubb wrote in a Bluesky post.

God of War remaster rumors began heating up late last year, with sources claiming that the first three mainline entries and the 2013 prequel God of War: Ascension were being developed under Nixxes. Sony and God of War studio Sony Santa Monica have declined to comment on the topic, but if there is an inkling of truth to the current reports, then it won't be a long wait to see these remasters officially revealed.

While God of War Ragnarok was the last official game released--and ported to PC in 2024--we do know that one of the two live-service games recently canceled by Sony was supposedly based in the God of War universe. Meanwhile, Kratos actor Christopher Judge shut down a report about a potential new game in the series, describing these rumors as "absolutely not true."

Sony Santa Monica also has multiple projects in development, including its first new IP in 20 years.

I wonder if they'll be censored. Some things would be problematic for the modern audience.

Hopefully these games will also be released on PC, it would be awesome having "official" versions of the classic GoW trilogy on Steam Deck.

I've been a fan of God of War games for decades now, I've played them all except for the mobile game. I'd be down for the Greek Remasters for sure as it'll be a day-one purchase. And to be frank, I wanna go back to the Kratos who doesn't give a damn anymore.
