Ryan Reynolds Auditioned for a Coen Brothers Movie and It Didn't Go So Well

"It was OK, it just wasn't the right fit, unfortunately."

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he auditioned for a role in a movie from acclaimed directors Joel and Ethan Coen--but it could have gone better. In a new episode of Variety's Actors on Actors, Reynolds said he tried out for a role in the brothers' second most recent film, which would have been Inside Llewyn Davis, which told the story of a struggling musician.

"My last audition was...I auditioned and failed for the Coen brothers," he said (via Entertainment Weekly). "It was terrible. It was OK, it just wasn't the right fit, unfortunately. Mostly because they're very high-class.

"In the room, they were just quietly shaking their heads. Like, 'What are you doing here? Do you have a [Screen Actors Guild] card, or do you have the Canadian version?' 'How did you get here?'"

Reynolds didn't say what part he auditioned for. Inside Llewyn Davis' lead role went to Oscar Isaac, who went on to star in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the pilot Poe Dameron.

The Coen brothers have made a number of celebrated movies, including Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, and O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Reynolds will play Deadpool again in the movie's upcoming sequel.

Reynolds has my support as an actor. Goes to show he hasn't let the success of Deadpool curve his hunger as an actor(so it seems). That's what being an artist is all about stepping outside your comfort zone and adding to your arsenal. There's actors and actresses that choose either the easy way or hard way(as an actor unless you're coming from money or lineage of thespians there is no easy way.), meaning as their career progresses finding out what works and who to work with they stay within that comfort zone. Which is understandable. The industry and employment of being a thespian is unpredictable and unstable because alot of that stuff starts out with agents/hand-shakes/verbal agreements. Which can be broken for whatever reason(s) before it gets to actually building up a contract taking months depending on the size of the project and cast. Then there's the hard way. The masses don't hear about certain now famous actors/actresses blunders because most already come from hard knock backgrounds of mistakes or wrong place, wrong time, or maybe both. Now they're in the limelight string of successes, but before hand they had string of auditions that played out just like this article(for whatever reason is being printed). So rave kudos for keepin' his fire burning towards the art. Because the masses won't hear it, but people in the industry see that as an actor who is open-minded and willing to step outside his comfort zone. Especially after having a success like Deadpool. For all we know one door may have slammed and broke his pride, but without a doubt opened up many more for him in the future. Any real thespian will tell you when the art stops becoming challenging either step outside your comfort zone or try writing, producing, or even directing like Clint Eastwood, overall evolve.

@breathnac: gamespot announced long ago that they were expanding their coverage from just games to include other forms of entertainment (movies, comics, etc).

Ryan Reynolds is an alright actor, but you know. You win some you lose some.

I thought he was pretty good in Buried so I don't think it's that he doesn't have the chops. He can do drama if he has the right role and director to work with.

@cornbredx: Totally agree with this. I really enjoyed Buried, considering the movie was just shot in a box. They did a good job without it feeling repetitive and i think he did well in it. Granted he is no Oscar Isaac but he isnt a bad actor by any means.
