Ryse: Son of Rome Lowers Recommended PC System Requirements

Crytek initially posted 4k gameplay system requirements as "recommended."

Earlier this week, an update to the Ryse: Son of Rome Steam product page revealed the game's release date and PC minimum and recommended system requirements. However, Crytek has since updated the recommended system requirements with a couple of less demanding hardware components.

"Since there was some initial confusion about the System Requirements (as we originally posted the specs needed for 4k as recommended on the Store page), we wanted to give you a bit more insight into the system requirements to run the game and some examples of fitting CPUs and GPUs in the three categories," developer Crytek said in an update to the Steam community.

The differences are in the required processor, a quad-core or six-core CPU instead of an Intel quad-core or AMD octo-core, and graphics card, which needs 2 GB video RAM instead of 4 GB video RAM.

The full, updated system requirements follow, and below them for comparison the requirements posted earlier this week.

Minimum:

  • CPU: Dual core with HyperThreading technology or quad core CPU
  • Examples: Intel Core i3 2.8 GHz (3220T) or AMD Phenom II X4 3.2 GHz (945)
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • GPU: DirectX 11 graphics card with 1 GB video RAM
  • Examples: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 or AMD Radeon HD 7770
  • OS: 64 bit Windows (Vista, 7, 8)
  • HD: 26GB

Recommended:

  • CPU: Quad Core or Six Core CPU
  • Examples: Intel Core i5 3.3 GHz (2500k) or AMD FX-6350 3.9 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • GPU: DirectX 11 graphics card with 2 GB video RAM
  • Examples: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660Ti or AMD Radeon 260x or 7850
  • OS: 64 bit Windows (Vista, 7, 8)
  • HD: 26GB

Recommended for 4k gameplay:

  • CPU: Quad Core or Eight Core CPU
  • Examples: Intel Core i7 3.5 GHz (2700k) or AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • GPU: DirectX 11 graphics card with 4 GB video RAM
  • Examples: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780/ Titan or AMD Radeon 290x
  • OS: 64 bit Windows (Vista, 7, 8)
  • HD: 26GB

The system requirements posted earlier this week:

Crytek will publish the digital version of Ryse: Son of Rome for PC on October 10, while Saints Row and Dead Island publisher Deep Silver is handling the physical version.

The naming conventions of GPUs is confusing to me. I once bought a NVIDIA 8400gs which seemed powerful at the time, but turned out to be better at video editing than gaming.

@Attitude2000 Because gs versions sucks ass, and GTS(way better than GS) was dropped after 200 series(300 series was skipped like 800 series but exist as Mversions on laptops), and it all went to GTX, but any version below #60 is crap, the first number indicates mostly software and hardware capabilities, and the second number is for actual power class. Here you can see how they differ from each other performance wise. << LINK REMOVED >>
And here is the joke performance of laptop graphics, it's only slightly better than 700m series. << LINK REMOVED >>

Also gtx 880m is as good as a gtx 660ti or gtx 760, but the mobile version probably won't last as long and will heat up much faster.

AMD 8350? Check. 8GB RAM? double check (I have 16) ...but I have a GTX 680 with 2GB RAM. Don't quite make the 4k requirement, but oh well. Won't have a 4k monitor for at least another 8 years, anyway. By then, I'll have a much beefier rig.

Those are impressively low system req for 4k gaming actually. Still doesn't make it a good game, and it might be a "bad port" anyway but I take it you can play at atleast 60fps in 4k having those specs wich performancewise is quite good. Capcom take notes.

Unlike DR3 wich has abyssmal performance and requirements in comparision to the way it looks with some really crappy textures and the bad enemy ai. Until it is modded or patched I can't even brute force it to keep 60fps as it doesn't support SLi, still drops up to 20 frames to the low 40s. It wasn't even optimised good enough in 720p on the x1 with frame drops to 14fps, a completeley unplayable game imo.

Atleast the pc version can keep locked 30fps at 1080p with all graphics options on max, so it is better than the alternative. But that performance is only okay for a nextgen console, but it is a crappy port for pc despite being the definitive version of that game.

Wow, so many self entitled creeps here. Who cares if you're not going to play it based on your (scientific conclusion) that it sucks. I thought this game was a fun and satisfying hack'n'slash with amazing graphics, I'll definitely buy it for my PC to see it looking that much better. It was no less engaging than Crysis 2 & 3 and should be something you'd come to expect from Crytek; beautiful graphics, short and sweet campaign with an adequate story and over all polished game. Have people forgotten to have fun or something?

<< LINK REMOVED >> I'm all for everyone having personal opinions and all. But you're touting Ryse, Crysis 2, and Crysis 3 as Crytek's defining games?

For me, Crytek has only ever put out two good games: Far Cry, and Crysis. After that, they switched to making linear, simplified and mediocre games.

So, to answer your final question: No, people have apparently forgotten how to have standards though.

@BuBsay @XNEXUS666X I am agree with you on that, after Far Cry and Crysis they are just too concentrate making games on consoles and start losing grip of gaming.

... There is so much more to the graphics card than the memory. There are GTX 760s with 4GB that get stomped by a GTX 780 with only 3GB.

<< LINK REMOVED >> no duh. you are talking about a gb of difference between two cards with one closing in on being twice as powerful as the other. A 780 will always stomp a 760. But with 4k textures or intense anti-aliasing, memory does matter. Look up watch dogs reviews that discuss memory needs. But I do agree that high memory on mid range cards doesn't make much sense. I have a 6gb 780 right now, but I only got it because I could evga step up to it for 30 bucks. I figure I would future proof myself when I get around to buying my 4k screen. but even then 3gbs is still going to go a long ways for a lot of years. My 780 will get absolutely killed by the 295x2 any day in the raw power department with frame rates and such even though the 295x2 only has 4gb of useable memory. But I will still be able to manage more skyrim mods than the 295x2.

My original point though is that memory is the only mention they make. Even with less memory the 780 would still do better at 4k because while the 760 can hold more it can't process more.

They need to say much more about the gpu requirements than what they provided.

@demonkingx8 I have a 8350 and I agree sometimes It sucks and just doesn't offer much. But for some games it is extremely well optimized to the point where It performs about the same at a 4770 or better. But it is cheaper, and the reason they keep recommending the fx series is because honestly what else does amd have to offer, nothing. They are obviously going to recommend intel since they perform better but they cant leave the amd owners out so they have to recommend something from that side of processors. I am never going to buy amd processors again unless they get their act together. I have had too many issues with programs freaking out over the false cores and that they don't recognize the processor itself, thank you crysis. The only exception would be a cheap htpc that I would want to throw a cheap cpu in, then I might get an amd 8150 for it. I have not looked much into the apus from amd though. they could be good enough.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Neither. As I wrote on Steam, we had originally posted the requirements to play on 4k as "Recommended". The specs are exactly the same, but we wanted to avoid confusion for anyone thinking they would need those 4k specs to play on lower resolutions like 1080p.

That isn't what the word exclusive means.

If a company says a game is exclusive to their platform then you must own their system to play the game. A game not being on some systems doesn't make it exclusive. Uncharted, League of Legends, Halo, and Mario are exclusives because I must own the system to play the latest games.

<< LINK REMOVED >> why do you need realistic body damage in a unrealistic game? Legionnaires work in groups and are useless alone. They fight shoulder to shoulder and use their shields to work on an opening for the short sword slash to finish off the opponent. In this game however you walk around with your gladius as it would be some overcharged Thor's Hammer and smash everything out of the way.

So again, you want realistic body part damage on an unrealistic game?

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Consistency with the visuals is much different than consistency with historical data. Basically, it's a pretty realistic looking, mature video game. The damage effects should reflect this as well. The way they fight or the dialogue or whatever are all separate issues. Unrealistic sound design shouldn't change how shiny the swords are, and historically inaccurate fighting style/formation shouldn't change what happens when a sword cuts into realistic looking flesh.

Dont get me wrong, im still capable of enjoying a game without blood but, it really does break immersion when i stab someone in the chest and when I pull out my blade, his chest is still as smooth as a baby's ass greased with oil.
