Samurai Warriors 3 slicing US Wiis

Nintendo announces deal with Tecmo Koei to bring next installment in Dynasty Warriors spin-off exclusively to its latest console.

Two years ago, Koei introduced its historical Japanese action series to the Wii with Samurai Warriors: Katana. However, the first-person on-rails action game deviated from formula, eschewing the third-person hack-and-slash gameplay for which the franchise and its many sibling series had become known.

That game flopped with critics, but now Koei (Tecmo Koei, to be precise) is attempting a more traditional adaptation of Samurai Warriors for the console. Nintendo today announced "a unique partnership" with the publisher to bring the Wii-exclusive Samurai Warriors 3 to North America this fall. The game was released in Japan in December.

Samurai Warriors 3 will forgo the system's motion controls entirely, instead allowing players to hack through battlefields full of fodder with a Wii Remote-and-Nunchuk combo, the Classic Controller (Pro or "amateur"), or a GameCube pad. Although it seeks to return to the form of previous games in the series, Samurai Warriors 3 will include a handful of new gameplay features, including" kaiden" special moves that go above and beyond the existing "musou" attacks.

The game will also include two-player online and offline cooperative gameplay with some form of sharing feature, as well as a new gameplay mode based on a Nintendo Entertainment System game never released outside of Japan, Nazo no Murasamejo (The Mysterious Murasame Castle).

It had to have been set on easy for them to do all those moves. The idea of it coming exclusively to the Wii is dumb. All i know is Koei better put Samurai Warriors 3 on Ps3 and 360 as well.

Looks good, hope the difficulty really is set to easy for the video though. Anyway, still wont be getting a wii for it. Hopefully it'll be released on PS3 or 360 eventually.

Well, the only reason I really see for this is that Koei doesn't want to spend the development money on a full fledged HD title (given how DW6 turned out, i suppose I shouldn't be surprised). I quite liked the first two SW games even though they're kind of "lolwarriorsgame" to the general community, but unfortunately this isn't enough reason for me to buy a wii.

Can't wait I really want to get this game and Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes both games are going to be awesome. @JaxxRaxor: Well actually the Wii doesn't one already it call Sengoku Barasa 2: Heroes(by Capcom)but it was only release in Japan sadly :(, the good thing is they're bring over Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes(third game).

It seems rather interesting, especially the online play, which hasn't been in any of the previous SW series nor the Dynsasty Warriors series. I'm not sure how well it will do. I know that DW series has been laggin a bit because of the repetive gameplay and very few changes between versions, but maybe SW3 will do good since the wii has yet to get one of these games unlike the PS3 and Xbox 360. Maybe it can achieve decent sales like No More Heroes and its sequel, but not more than that.

Stupid move I think, while I personally love the game, i've loved it from the PS2 and i do not think its a strong enough title to make it exclusively where its becoming an age that exclusives are top grade, e.g. mass effect 2, uncharted 2. SW3 cant compete with them. The only chance they have is that the huge fan base of the wii pick up on this exclusive, but as SW isn't well known in all age groups, i think its going to fail unfortunately.

That's great on that end. What about Australia? I guess I'll have to keep on waiting until it reaches Australian shores and hopefully won't get scathed by the Classification Board.

Don't know why, but there is something about near-mindless hack and slash gameplay that will always have a place in my gaming time.
