Sausage Party Has Better Opening Night Than These Other Raunchy Comedies
The animated movie had a better first Thursday than Neighbors, Ted 2, and Trainwreck.
The R-rated animated movie Sausage Party, from the comedic minds of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, brought in $3.25 million in Thursday night previews in the US. Deadline reports that the number includes figures from 2,632 locations where it played across the country.
It's not so easy to compare Sausage Party to other films, but it could be considered a raunchy comedy. In that event, it's pacing ahead of the Thursday night previews for other relatively recent films of that nature, including Neighbors ($2.56 million), Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising ($1.67 million), Ted 2 ($2.6 million), and Trainwreck ($1.8 million).
According to Deadline, Sausage Party is on track to cook up $20 million this weekend. A strong Thursday night preview is not necessarily indicative of weekend performance, however, according to Deadline.
The DC Comics movie Suicide Squad is expected to remain the No. 1 movie at the US box office this weekend, pulling in as much as $54 million, with new releases Sausage Party and Pete's Dragon following.
