Sausage Party's Food Orgy Scene Changed to Make R Rating, Here's How
"They asked that we remove the hair from the pita bread's ballsack."
The soon-to-release animated comedy Sausage Party is rated R. But now, writer Seth Rogen has revealed that the film originally received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA.
In an interview with the Howard Stern Show (via IndieWire), Rogen talked about what needed to be cut to get the desired R rating--and it involves a food orgy and pubic hair.

After getting the NC-17 rating, Rogen said he worried that he'd have to "butcher" the film to get an R rating. But that wasn't the case, as only smaller edits needed to be made.
"We probably added six things into the orgy that we were like, 'OK, these are like our sacrificial lambs.' They're the chips we're willing to lose--and we lost like an eighth of one of them," he said.
Rogen sounded surprised that the MPAA's edit requests were apparently so minimal.
"There is a pita bread and you see his ballsack in the orgy," Rogen said. "And it had hair on it--they asked that we remove the hair from the pita bread's ballsack. So we digitally shaved the pita bread's ballsack and removed the hair from it."
Sausage Party, which tells the story of what happens when grocery store items discover the horror of being taken home, comes to theaters on August 12. For more, check out this review roundup.
